Hey im a fairly athletic kid whos about 6'3 225lbs. i ride a 6'8 round pin byrne for stomach- 1-2ft. overhead days i ride my 6'6 anacapa glider in anything below chest i saw a board at my local shop it was a 6'6 round pin sharp eye sb-1 i was looking to use this board for summer days in the chest or bigger range or for a good fall day what do you guys think
Which board It depends. . . #1) upon your experience, ability, conditioning, and ''kid'' level -age- (fairly athletic only goes so far) #2) the typical type of wave you expect to encounter during summer in Jersey #3) what kind of surfer you want to be, and how soon you expect to be there #4) how much time you can spend in the water with a given board
Ive had a couple sharp eyes and the SB-1 was my favorite... I rode it in a 6'0'' x 18 1/4 x 2 1/4 though so i dont know much about the bigger sizes.... but mine was fast, skatey, and liked to be put on rail (def. not for inexperienced surfers). One of my all time favorite boards until i smashed it on a reef... but i was actually overall impressed with its glass job............. check em out at http://www.sharpeyesurfboards.com/pages/
fairly athletic i mean like i play hockey 4-5 times a week and i've been conditioning for college hockey ive also realize i like a thinner board becuase i can really pull my weight and i like the feeling of sinking the board while standing up so then it kinda stalls out for barrels however i can pump and generate alot of speed
also i wouldnt say im a great surf i can hold my ground in pretty much everything we see in jersey and i am starting to learn cutbacks snaps and floaters
If you are in NJ, do yourself a favor and go to brian wynn for a custom board. if youre going to spend the money for a high quality board, get a REALLY high quality board custom shaped specifically for you. his prices are great, quality is fantastic, and his boards work really well for NJ waves
I second that!!! Brian is a great shaper and an even sicker glasser. He will hook you up with a custom that will suit you.
yeah i have talked to him before i may check him out but im kinda leaning towards a used board in the 6'6 range
