hey fellow surfers, im from NJ and I go to LBI.

Danielle will be coming up the Atlantic during this weekend, and I just wanted to be sure what I can expect going down. The swell forecast is telling me that it will be clean most of the weekend, no sideshore or anything. I don't want to go down and realize that it's sideshore and a rip current.

    thanks for the help

There's always rip currents when there's swell in the water regardless of wind direction. Water comes in, water must go out! With a swell period this long, there will be very strong rip currents.
Check out this site for more info. Please read for your safety.

the currents a week before the storm aren't going to be the same as the week it arrives though, but I see now that it will be probably too intense this weekend

Swell can travel a 1000 miles from a storm center and create tremendously strong rips. The wind creates waves. You should really read the tutorials on this site.

longer period swells always bring nice currents with them. you have to do alot of paddling to stay in the break zone. and though the forecast currently says that it is going to be clean all week, everybody knows that that won't happen.

exactly, i don't want to over exert myself and get those cramps again. it always is a pain paddling out past the break to catch a wave, especially this weekend looks like it

I disagree - in bigger beach breaks i always look for rips - recognizing a good rip can def make for an easier paddle-out!

Agreed a good rip next to a jetty is always a plus. They are the ocean's version of ski lifts.

based on what you are asking and the way you pose the questions, I am going to assume your level of experience, and its probably not at the point where you should be out there in these conditions. Just sayin'

I love the ski lift analogy. Personally, I love rips as they make the paddle out much easier but I say this with some caution. You must know how to navigate the rip and understand the power that they possess.

I agree with what everyone on here has said and also think that if you are asking this question that perhaps you should sit this weekend out.
