There is very real possibility that Hurricane Danielle may have paved the way for soon to be Hurricane Earl to make landfall on the east coast. I can still remember evacuating Cape May in the mid 80s for Hurricane Gloria, was pretty young so I didn't realize the severity of the situation....Anyway, the swellinfo model shows the storm coming pretty darn close to NJ. Sit tight and enjoy the surf this weekend, next weekend might not be so fun. Picture of the aftermath in Cape May http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:H52_hurricane_gloria_1985.jpg
i hope not, but it's possible. 10 day weather forecast only shows 10 percent chance of even rain for those days, but anything can change especially in a week. i keep citing what ernesto the hurricane no one remembers did to my block before i lived here. it tipped trees, and wrecked a roof of a brand new house, and other kinds of damage. pretty scary for a measely category 1 that didn't even make a direct hit in jersey. it did give some good swell. anyway i will be out of town though in st pete florida for the labor day weekend. i'm leaving next friday morning, but if the reports get a little closer i am considering boarding up.
Yeah i remember Gloria I was really young when that hit. After the storm they spent a week removing all the trees that fell in my area of North Cape May. That pic brings it all back and the is showing on to the old spots that use to really get good in its time
i lived up in bergen county where i grew when gloria hit. i must have been 14. i think that flooded out my town pretty bad, and i wasn't really on the actual coast even. just a few miles west of the hudson river. i heard it was pretty bad down the shore though.
I surfed Gloria at Sandy Hook NJ back in the day. That storm hit and moved fast, within hours of the rain it was blowing offshore and was super clean. My girlfriend at the time said "your not going surfing in a Hurricane!" I said "yes I am, see ya!!"
