FLAT!!! i was just at two really good surf spot in Deal and Long Branch (11:50 pm) and there was not even a ripple! complete flatness.... the charts say it should be head high now. but it looks like a lake... i really hope some time before morning comes, that out of the horizon that first giant set will come already and start this swell!!
AI MD head high sets yesterday afternoon. I've got a feeling with a little patience will come your reward.
Groundswell It was fun in VB. did you happen to be spot checking for only a couple minutes?? sets were rolling in about every 10 minutes then the ocean would go completely flat....it is a groundswell remember? anyways, it was pretty consistent shoulder high sets where I was.
look at the wave map... it doesnt even show monmouth getting any swell. it stays in the blue the whole time
I think similar to Bill, this swell peaked overnight. Some of the reports were calling overhead today here in VB and although close, most were shoulder to head high. Thanks to the surfing gods that it was clean though. I checked out spots in the lower states such as Florida, and its choppy and just a bunch of death drops.
that sucks that you didnt look around. checked deal and asbury last night and it was lake atlantic, drove less than 5miles and found a spot breaking head high. Just as forecasted i went back this morning and easily 1-2ft. overhead sets coming through, so all of the posts about no swell means you guys arent looking very hard OR maybe your trying to keep everyone from PA and NY @ home. Another week and we get our beaches back!
The swell refracted from Asbury and everything south of it. That's why Loch Arbour and north didn't get anything. I took a ride down the coast and I could start to see the size building the more I went south.
Same here i drove down the coast around 5am and checked from Long branch, deal, asbury, OG etc. and didnt see actual size till i reached belmar and southern. i stopped at sea girt.
This swell was very tide sensitive. 2 - 21/2 hrs of solid head high then it was like somebody hit the switch and it went to knee to waist. Pretty wierd.
i checked them in spring lake at like 5 45 and within a 15 minute time period probably saw 10 other people there checking them all comming from pretty long distances. They sucked then but by like 7 they were decent, nothing they predicted though..
