    OBX wind forecast

Just checked the weather channel forecast and that wind forecast is better. So far friday should be great w/ wsw at 13 daytime going NNE at 3 friday nite. Frisco saturday day shows NNE 13 and thats way better than 20-25. 20-25 could be a near shore forecast. I'm going to surf Nags Head thur, fri all day and sat morning. Then if winds are ok for frisco drive down for sat during the day. I remember a storm back in mid 90's that stayed way offshore and it pushed in masssive swell that was clean with favorable winds. I think friday obx could be epic

Victory at Sea and 12 has been washing over the last few swells more so than normal.

Here is a plan; but as with previous storms, things can change and the swell/wind may not live up to the hype. So I remind myself to temper the anxiety! Follow and interpret the data, check the cams and make the decision that morning early! LOL!

obx friday - offshore - just hope it is not in the 20-25 mph range.

crystall coast saturday and sunday - offshore - may suck because AB and EI can not handle long period swell. (alot of closeouts).

obx monday - offshore - light!

Crystal Coast will be closing out if it gets to be overhead. There is no way around it. Best there in the 11-12 second range period. Go to Frisco.

sooo.... how DOES frisco handle the hard offshores? What is the cutoff? 10-15kts? I know some points will work in super gusty offshores.

if you wanna know what a hard offshore does at frisco..... go! If you get there and it's vas then you know where not to go next time, but if you get there and it's perfect glass then you and your boys will be talkin about it for weeks. the greater the risk the greater the reward

You guys get that fear going when it is big and scary at OBX? I sure do, I think that is part of the allure! The power of the pitch at OBX! I was at KDH after Eart and could not make a section on a head high one so I turned out towards shore to miss the lip and the big white puff just pummled and worked me! I love it but it reminds me of the power and respect and yes the fear.

Look at www.obxsurfinfo.com they had someone surfing Frisco with pics for Danielle with hard offshores I beileve. Big!!!

thought i'd revive this thread for this latest swell. i like whitewater's advice. it might be amazing, but even if it's not it's not like it will be any better in vb. think i might make the drive just to check it out - anybody else headed down?

At the least, you might want to make sure Hwy 12 is actually open. It looks pretty flooded at Mirlo Beach right now.

Holden was nice (i surfed the inlet and it was epic), but the main reason it wasn't closing out at such a period was the direction of the swell...the little east in it kept it from closing out

I guess it depends on the size but if its head high or bigger, 15 knot winds are probably the max you'd want to go out in. If the winds are any harder, it's usually real pitchy with a ton of closeouts.
