Fastest boards I've ever ridden, they obviously can't really go straight up in the pocket with such a wide nose and tail, but for anything that's a tad mushy they're as good as it gets. Super Fun, if you live in Charleston, there are several guys at Folly with them. Just keep your eyes peeled.
I live on Sullivan's Island and surf this side mainly. It's tough to leave the beach to go to the beach meaning leaving IOP area to go to Folly. I haven't seen any on this side, do you know who is shaping them or where they're getting them?
super fast, super fun. takes some getting used to, not a board for everyone. i'd try one first if you can unless they really sound like the type of ride you are looking for. if you like twins and like to go fast you'll probably like one.
its definitely worth the drive. i've been over near IOP for a little over a month and i just couldn't go to that beach anymore. anyways, i have a mini simmons-ish board. its sort of like the lost plank. its by album surfboards and its called the sub. i got him to shape it as a quad rather than a twin keel and i really like it. goes off in sub knee high waves...
I just shaped one for myself and it made the thigh high- super mushy surf feel like it had all the power it needed. The board flies and is surprisingly responsive. For me the downside with such wide tail is that it's easier for you back foot to miss that "engage rail" sweetspot, and it could mess up your ride, but besides that my mini simmons is the only board I want to ride right now when it small and otherwise "only longboardable" Seriously, those that haven't ridden one don't understand the fun they're missing out on.
