Just curious--how were things at the various Delaware spots yesterday? I got talked in to going to NJ yesterday, where things were a bit disappointing from Sea Isle to Cape May. I was wondering if the more north-south coast of the DE might have been better in this swell. Thanks.
Heard morning was OK but at lunchish time the E wind started to ruin it and wont the battle. Waves were garbage starting about 1 or so....
LOL!!! you can put that in monmouth county also. well, he showed up, but brought minimal surf, closeouts, and unfavorable winds.
I doubt you were in CM yesterday. CM was chest high and peeling long lines at 11am and by 5pm is was Head high with the ocassional OH sets. A bunch of ppl on the forum surfed CM yesterday and they will tell you too it was a really good day to be in CM
ocnj was beat sunday from the gardens all the way to 14th. Super choppy. I did get a few good rides on sat though at the north end of oc. It was a beautiful weekend so it was nice to get out any way. Better than being in PA lol
Not in the Mid-Atlantic, but this was what my homebreak in Jacksonville Bch, FL looked like this morning
On sat, the conditions were semi glassy chest to head high waves with a few over head set's coming in. The swell was decent in the morning, then increased in the afternoon with the changing of the tides; The frequency of the waves wasn't spectacular.
Igor sucked Sat & Sun on Delmarva. Both mornings were clean, but still weak closeouts 95% of the time. I checked numerous places both days & saw a bunch of people bobbing in the water waiting to catch a shoulder/corner for 1/2 sec ride on mostly head high slightly bigger weak waves. Friday morning looked best.
In Central NJ, the surf was big, solid 8ft sets rolling through. The sea-breezes came up early unfortunately though.
fri was great w/ the s swell, saturday in ac was straight epic.. sunday from lb to belmar was just closing out..
ground swell... ...needs the proper bottom. so delaware is not a good place for it. I found perfect surf all weekend long. no tubes, but chest-2-head-playfull-fun-trestles type of surf. wind swell is best for 90% of delmarva, but if you can change gears and venture out...there were waves to be had!
I don't know where you all where, but where I was Igor definitely made himself known. I got some nice waves Friday through Sunday. Sunday was awesome sitting outside waiting for the big ones to roll in. I'd say it was a consistent head high or just short of it with some much bigger sets rolling in every few minutes.
DE wasn't great this weekend. went down to assateague sunday around low tide and it was pumping. looked a lot like the hurley pro waves at trestles on saturday. solid head high+ waves consistently rolling through. the paddle out was like a mile out but worth it in the end. thanks Igor
grinding barrels off the takeoff. chest-head on sets. reeeeeeeling down the line. not one single closeout. a bunch of heads but if you can surf you got more than your share. in fact... there were a few pro's out that were impressed by DE. getting barrels so deep they would dissapear and get spit out only to have another 50+ yards of grinding wave. Also, with 16 sec pd you need to play the tides. Friends called from Jerz and said a few spots were working but mostly BIG closeouts and many rejected paddle out attempts......
where i was at sunday morning it was going off. solid head-2ft overhead rights and lefts. Occ. barrel if you were luicky..i wasn't lucky. my homebreak was beat though. better than i thought it was going to be.
Thanks for the feedback, all. Matt, we didn't wander down to Cape May until late Sunday, looked at the Cove, which was flat (but maybe we didn't stick around long enough, as the dinner bell was definitely ringing by that point), and the rest of it looked pretty much like Stone Harbor: biggish sets rolling through but not much shape and, of course, blown out by day's end.
