Anyone know of a good place to go camp on the beach, start a fire, and be alone without paying for a site in a parking lot full of fat rednecks with RV's or getting arrested by park rangers? I could use some time away. OBX/va/ eastern shore preferably- but im willing to drive for the solitude. Thanks, dudes / dudettes. -The stud
Was just looking at info on this last night.... Assateague National Seashore -- you can go backcountry camping there: http://www.nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/backcountry-camping.htm
i had to think about this one for a minute... oh wait, everyone in vb is in the navy- gotcha. Nope, me and all of my facial hair are growing tired of hanging out in the same bars looking at same sh!t every weekend. This flat spell getting...the...best...ooffff....meeeeeee ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
personally with the flat spell upon us i'd be inclined to head for the mountains to camp - go try a bit of the appalachain trail - good camping & hiking without the sand in your sleeping bag
exactly what i just did in the catskills. scored the fall foliage perfect and did some great hikes around hunter moutain. great way to get your mind off the flatness and experience some of the other great sides of nature while getting some really good exercise. great time to go camp
right on, dudes, great idea. Id still dig the idea of primitive camping. Not rv's and generators type thing. A nice long hike does sound nice. it woudl be sweet to do a 20 miler and just make camp somewhere half way. A peace pipe, a good book, and like 6 pounds of jerky...
dispersed My terminology has been all wrong, im not looking for "primitive", im looking for "dispersed" camping. i want to do some mountain biking and hiking. im going solo and would rather not camp near... people. Any of my richmond folks know much about Pocahontas state park? VT'ers know about doing this in the jefferson national forest? oh yea, xgen70: im not sure if a.) your serious and want to learn about some local escapes of if your b.) just being a jackA55. If its option b: Thanks for your input, 8==> head. Go read up on wetsuits for the zillionth time. Its a flat spell, not much stoking out going around right now.
Good thread!!! Leethestud, I know what you mean .... we need to disconnect ..... I am going crazy down here in "purple nation" and "halloween central"Alll this traffic, college kids, ect....I want to get away every weekend! no cell phone, no facebook, no internet.... peace and serenity! I may just go down NC 12 south and camp/whatever by myself this friday!
hit the mountains for the solitude... there are a few places you must hike into to camp. Do some research. Smokey mountains are beautiful....
yeah, i heard the same. let us know where you're thinking. i know a bit about the appalachian trail and some parks/mountains in the northeast
orange... LeeStud, just remember it's hunting season. The boyz are out in force, searching for Bambi with heavy weaponry in hands & Old Grandad in the gut. ____________________________________________________________________ For example....are you considering mountain biking on trails...? Then you may want to don something chic but casual in a nicely fitted blaze orange...
funny. just got back from four days in sw va (grayson highlands - where va/nc/tn meet). looks like i didn't miss much around here. the drive is a beyotch (7.5 hours from vb) but the leaves are peaking (as was i). mt. rogers is the highest mountain in va and right there but we didn't climb it (no views from the top - it's all treed out). chose to do some rockhopping/bouldering/waterfall climbing up wilson creek. no trails, no people anywhere to be seen or heard. it's amazing. no matter where you go you will find waves of one kind or another. especially if you're enjoying the fruits of the harvest. i say go to the mountains now for fall fun. the leaves will be gone from the high country very soon.
ive been to mt mitchell did the whole climb all the way to the peak. at first it was just straight up then it got okay with elevation and close to the top it got gnarly. then me and my dad hiked 4 miles off the top on that other trail. did this with about 25lb packs with 2 days worth of food and clothes, sleeping bag, pad, and tent. the way up took me and my dad who are in both top shape like 5-6 hours way down took about 2 hours.
yeah the Appalachain trail is a awsome Hike. I did the whole thing from Maine to Gerogia when I was in the Boy Scouts with I was 14 took 3 months almost . It was probally one of the most challenging things I have ever done. I wanna camp out at Assateague in the spring or next fall would be cool to surf and camp
F*ck it im, going to richmond. Hide your husbands, hide your wives, cuz leethestud is raping errrey-body. im bringing the bike. And a blaze orange tee
