if your looking for a great trip for uncrowded surf look into Nicaragua, and Surfari Charters. www.surfaricharters.com they run all inclusive surf charters for up to 2 groups of 4 people. all this is in the website but i have stayed there and can tell you first hand you surf up to 8 hours a day, the winds are offshore all day long for almost the entire year, fish every other day on their boat and catch sails, dorado, rooster, tuna, mackerel, etc eat great for the whole time and drink as much as you want! i have had the four best surf trips of my life with them! check out the website and if you wanna have a great surf trip go!
I can vouch for them. I went there in August 2004 and had an absolute blast. Lance puts you on the fish and waves. It doesn't get any better than that. The cook Jimmy made awesome meals every night. The locals that work there are great-Tike and Henry. Not sure if I got their names right. The waves were in the fun zone between waist high and overhead and blew offshore all day. The only downside was when my fin hit my face and I needed stitches on a Sunday morning when the whole town was drunk. It was an ordeal because we were surfing colorados by boat and I was gushing blood. Got stitched up by some local for 20 dollars. Lance provided the clean needles.
huevos? or you could grow a sac and go down there yourself, speak Spanish, and not spend 10x what it costs so you can have a "guide" and be "all inclusive". Just Sayin
I don't think using a "guide" really has anything to do with not having a "sac". And even if you use a "guide" you can still speak "spanish" to the locals.
well the thing is after spending money on food and a rental car, you end up spending the same amount of money. the other thing is the guides know where to take you depending on tide swell angle size, and crowd factor. i had no problem speaking spanish so i got to practice that while i was there too. it just makes for an easy surf trip.
We don't have to defend ourselves for going with a guide. Kellyrojo equated using a guide with not having "sac." Nothing's further from the truth. He doesn't know me or my history or how many/what types of trips I've been on. The point is if you have a limited time frame to surf then guided trips work.
i also forgot to mention that when your not surfing, they get you on the fish...ive caught a handful of sails, wahoo, tuna, mackerel, dorado, rooster. surfari charters offer a great first class vacation. i dont care what that dude says about a sac, you go on your own you'll miss out on all the waves and fish that only surfari charters can get you on. if anyone has any doubts check out the website www.surfaricharters.com or ask the handful of pros that stayed with them like timmy curran or shane beschen to name a few. check surfing magazine cover story February 2010
I don't know what kellyrtojo78's problem is. Maybe his boardshorts aren't filled out enough. I own property in Nica and travel there 2-3 times a year, so obviously, I'm all in. There's nothing wrong with(and it might be smart) to use a guide until you get comfortable operating in a third word country. Nica is about 15 years behnid Costa Rica as far as the gringo comfort factor. The surf is great, the people are wonderful, but it is a third world country, so be careful. Have a great trip. If you are like me, you won't want to come home. In about seven years I won't have to. Stay Wet!!!!
However you want to go its your choice. Im just saying I see a lot of folks who go down to Central/South America, get an all inclusive trip and never really interact with local people and only go where their guide tells em to go. All their commerce goes to one business instead of spreading it around. This creates a divide between the majority of local people at the breaks and the surfers because the locals see people with cash and lots of gear coming in and out but these folks never eat at their comedores, shop at their tiendas and don't spend any money in the community. You can see this divide at Punta Mango/Flores where people from out of town came in, built big all inclusive expensive resorts, and the money all stays in these compounds. Meanwhile, you have a town full of people living off of almost nothing and the one chance there is for some cash to get spread around gets soaked up by surf resorts. To say that an all inclusive trip is not more expensive is borderline ridiculous. It costs 15-30 bucks for 2 people to get a room anywhere in Nic, Guatemala, El Sal, and maybe a hair more in Mex. Sometimes rooms can be had for 10 or less. Meals ...2$ for break and 5$ for dinner. All inclusive are always at least 75$ a day and usually more. And they don't include airport pickup??? Please! Go with a sense of adventure, learn some of the local language, eat and stay in locally owned places, go a day or two (or 20) without internet access or a T.V., don't travel in a large group, get lost, get out of your comfort zone, figure it out when you get there. You need to find a break? Ask a local to come surf with you or give some guy a couple bucks to take you there. Its that easy. And sorry, but it doesn't take any sac to pay over 1,000$ for an all inclusive trip to Nicaragua when you will never get out of your comfort zone---just sayin Also, its pretty obvious that kxmalone actually works for surfaricharters....if he didnt why else would he post the company link 3 times?
first off i dont work for surfari...i wish i did and am actually trying to, i feel that spreading the word is my best shot. secondly i did the adventure thing many times in costa when i lived there on my own and its amazing. everything your saying is a generalization probably from your experiences which is not true, cause i can give you specific details to each of your points that are my personal experiences that contradict your statements. i have pretty much done everything you say you dont do while on a guided vaca including spreading my wealth around. im not going to get into an argument about costs cause ive done surf trips both ways i just feel my time on vacation is all about water time and i got the most with surfari charters. this is all my personal experience. oh and like i said the charter picks you up and drops you off at the airport, takes care of all transportation to and from over 15 different breaks, takes you fishing on their boat every other day, feeds you 3-4 awesome meals a day, and all you can drink beer and rum. i posted and rave about surfari charters not cause i work for em, cause i dont, yet, it would be a dream to work for them, but because i had such an amazing trip 4 times and scored every single time, i surfed waves that not many other people have surfed around the area including a wave on the cover of surfing mag, and i think its pretty sick. oh and we have had tons of adventure with them too...if you wanna know specifics then ask, they are entertaining haha
malone...cool. Sounds like you do it the right way when you go with a tour company. I hope more surfers would travel like that. Maybe your style will rub off on some of the other people you meet. Good luck getting a job,,,,,,that would be a great experience
