Anyone have any experience with Hyperflex AMP 5/4 hooded? Don't really have the cash for top name brand right now. How well do they keep water out? How do they hold up? How many years used? Thanks, GM
I bought one last year. Got a good deal on it. Nice and stretchy and kept me warm all winter. No water gets in. Definitely would recommend one.

I use the 5/4 AMP. Got a good deal off whiskey for 150 last year. Used it all winter in OC and had no issues with it. It fit really true to size as well.
When i removed my Oneil Psycho Freak WET suit after 3 hours sessions last year, there were dry spots around my stomach and hips and thighs. So i guess wet suits can be quasi dry suits if they fit right and the seams are money! We'll see if it still performs the same way this winter...i doubt it. It was brand new last December.
Got one off whiskey last year too.. Warm, strectchy and best off all < $200.. Ran a little big. If you have skinny wrists/ankles you may find that the cuff openings are a little big, however, with winter boots/gloves i didn't have any problems.
I have the 6/5/4 Amp. Going into third season this year. It's a good suit. When it dies, I'll buy another. Good value in my opinion. It's warm, and has had no ripping/seam issues at all, and I don't treat my suits very well. I don't rinse them after each use, basically just give it a good wash at the beginning of season, and mid season and that's it. The plastic clasps they use on the drawstrings are junk, but easy enough to replace. Had a top of the line rip curl 5/4 prior to this one. I may have liked the Rip Curl a little bit more, but factoring in the price, the Hyperflex definitely wins out. I've recomended to friends that have been happy with it as well.
I bought an excell drylock 5 mil last winter and the stitching is coming out of all the seems. I just ordered a 4/3 hyperflex flow series and it looks really solid especially for the price I hope its as good as I here because the top brand are getting a little overated.
I bought 3, the flow model is cheaper I think. They have a small zipper in front & take some practice to get into & out of too, but they are warm & comfty. But all 3 of my chin tightening cords were too short so the hood was too tight at first & one visor came off the first time I used it (don't pull on it to put the suit on). Glue on my first suit turned sort of off white, not the best look.
I've heard nothing but good things about Hyperflex suits...good suits for a great price. On another note, most high quality winter suits are called "semi dry suits" now by each manufacturer. So wetsuit, drysuit...it's all semantics. Nothing to get anal about.
i have the amp 4/3 and the 5 mil.they fit good and are warm.not good paddling out restrictive,but surfing is not restrictive.weird i know,i feel all tight paddling but not getting up or going.
I have a 4/3 Flow (step down from the AMP) and love it for warmth and I find it easy to get in to. I've had it down to 48 degree water temp and was perfectly warm. I have some trouble getting out of it though...the legs off from over my ankles I wrestle with it for quite awile. Probably just a personal issue, and not the suit. I don't like the hyperflex gloves...too short in the cuffs and my hands get cold.
Thanks for all the input. I've found to get the best info is to ask people who use the stuff, I've learned that much after 26 years of snowboarding. I'm a gear whore and I hate to waste my $$$ on gear that doesn't work or last. I ordered the new 5/4/3 AMP and should have it by Mid November. Thanks again for all the input.
