I just read that this horrible spill can head around florida and come up the atlantic. This whole thing is really terrible. Imagine not being able to surf our local breaks for years. Really pisses me off just thinking about what the surfers in the Gulf are going through, and the fact that there is even a shot at it coming up east.
if our state governments act fast enough and possibly put those big pontoon things out like what theyre doing down there than we may possible be saved.
The article scares the hell outta me. We have no idea how much oil is still under the water... and if it hits the gulf stream, will be here rapidly. The whole oil bed in that area can just blow, and release all the oil in it. I can't even imagine the results of that.
this well that is now spilling out uncotrollable through the broken pipe holds a 6 MONTH SUPPLY of US oil. SO if the well isnt capped soon imagine everyone taking all the gas they use in there cars for six months and dumping it in the ocean
upsetting? I would hardly blame the Pres for this. BP, the owner fo the rig is primarily responsible for the situation we are in. They under reported the problem at first claiming a smaller amount of oil was seeping out. 48 hours later, it became obvious that the problem was bigger than suspected. At any rate, the Coast Guard went out as well as all ships in the area were requested to give assistance to put the fire out. Now some people may think Obama can walk on water, but seriously? As soon as numbers came in showing it was a bigger problem, the Coast Guard was on tv announcing its laying out booms with more booms on the way. There is no pressure guage on the leak telling us what is happening. And if there was, it went to the bottom of the gulf with the oil rig. Not sure what more could be done by the gov't unless you want Obama to use his super magical powers to dive down 5,000+ feet to the bottom of the gulf and close off the leaking pipe with his heat vision.
No one is or should be blaming Obama for his response to this... Before I slam on him, I will wait and see how this incident sways his views on off-shore drilling in the near future. Now, if he overlooks this and allows all these mid-atlantic oil rigs to get installed, then houston, we got a problem.... Here is my view on why everyone blames obama... The democats all voted for Obama, thinking that he shared their beliefs on EVERYTHING... The reality is, Democrats have TOO MANY platforms and too many complaints and too many scattered ideas that they want Obama to deal with. Most dems are eco-friendly. They vote FOR the environment. They vote FOR gay rights. They vote for all kinds of crazy stuff just because they personally believe it. Every democrat in this country almost was yelling for Obama to Start dumping money into Global Warming and all this as soon as he took oath. Obama never ran on a environmentally friendly platform... He never made those kinds of promises. Obama cant feed the poor, cure the sick, marry all the gay couples, stop global warming and created a syntetic gasline that all of our cars can run on... So, on the one hand, I have bashed the man enough on his Bank Bail outs and his Socialized medicine... I will at least wait and see if this Oil situation will change the administrations stance on Drilling... If it doesnt, then this will be the fastest 4 year presidential term ever.... P.S. BP == OBAMA ADMINISTRATION... Each president inherits the nasty relationship that is BP and our Government. Obama probably sleeps in sheets that have BPs logo all over it... I am not blaming Obama, it is OUR governments fault long before he got there... And long before Bush did either.
If this goes on much longer some portion of BP's assets should be frozen/seized in lieu of long term clean up, restoration, compensation for all coastal fishers, charters, tourism, etc,.. AS far as who to blame,...? Any company/industry that does not have a plan B let alone C thru Z. Sorry that I assumed all these worst cases had been thought out, I mean WTF? Really,..WTF! I had no problem with oil exploration, offshore drilling, etc. Now,..after **** like this, it does stop and make you realize that all the oil in the world is not worth the value of a entire ecosystem, to hell with the oil.<<<< That being said, there is no reason why any spill or event like this should be able to over whelm the resources and containment effort,...IF, IF everyone is doing their job correctly and the REQUIRED equipment, personal is available. So as far as blame goes, if the EPA and all other regulatory boards do not have mandates about containment abilities, then there should never have been a well drilled in the first place, period. I see no reason why potential issues like this are not addressed before the well permits are granted? If you are going to drill a well and do not have the ability to effectively control it under even the most adverse scenarios, then the damn thing should have NEVER BEEN DRILLED.
Yep... then theres reality where people sometimes dont do their job correctly. remember the Exxon Valdez. the captain was sleeping off booze when the boat ran aground, Plan B, and C are needed because Murphy's Law always applies to these situations...what can go wrong will go wrong. The part that pisses me off in these situations theres usually some root cause that has something to do with negligence or some kind of penny wise, pound foolish kind of crap. Rest assured there will be congressional investigations, lots of finger pointing, and the politics on display from both sides will make it hard to cut through and actually learn from the disaster.
Sorry about the seizing assets thing,.. but this is starting to look like a potential nightmare, and if it goes that direction then either the company (BP) is doing everything in there power/humanlly possible, and/or any and all outside resources should be called in, at the expense of BP to get that well under control.
remember the oil spill? where did all of the oil go? seriously. anybody know? as leethestud would say, it's trippy that it all kind of just disappeared...
