Hey guys, Im always checking out coastal real estate back in the mid atlantic... Here are a couple places in our price range... Is this block ghetto or anything? This whole block is basically for sale. About 8 blocks to the beach in VB. Anyone know about this area? I know that "statistically" VB has higher crime etc, but from the locals I am friends with from VB, they say the coastal areas are generally very nice... any feedback? http://www.roseandwomble.com/Sold/PropertyDetail.aspx?propid=REIN|1041411 http://www.roseandwomble.com/ForSale/HamptonRoads/propertydetail.aspx?propid=REIN|1022930
vb help That's kind of ghetto but it doesn't really get too bad anywhere in vb. Though this may be the worst of it. Not a bad place to live straight out of college but wouldnt want to be buying a place down there. Then again 31st street is bout to blow up with bunch of tourist trap stuff and you never know what the city will do to the tourist area of the beach. Generally the higher streets, like above 40, is all locals and real nice. with exceptions. The south end, the lower streets, are a lot of tourists and some less nice places. again with exceptions.
I have a friend who lives back there. Its not bad; its generally quiet I believe, and right behind the Contemporary Arts Center, which is a positive. There are much worse places in VB that you can live. Like VBGrom said, north of the tourist strip, 40th and up, its nicer, but those are the high rollers and no average Joe's can afford those houses. This isn't bad. My buddy rides his bike to the beach. Its a straight shot through the CAC and up 23rd St I believe. Plus, for VB those are amazing prices. VB in general has a real estate market that is priced higher than it should be.
What the last guy said... I lived a few blocks up in college and still have some bachelor friends in the hood. I wouldn't raise a family there but for the single fella its a nice bike ride to the surf 1st street or to go bar hopping. ****ty motels, mobile home parks, and some section 8 apartments are nearby so there are more low income types lurking about than you would want... in my 6 months living there...the car was broken into in front of my house cost me a pair of sunglasses and an attempted break in at my house while my roommates and I were there... too bad this was before I had a handgun.
I was surprised at how high property costs are here in VB when I first got here. I guess that's a good sign, if I ever decide to own a home here, and have the peace of mind that it won't depreciate as much, even in a crappy housing market. I don't think the second home is that bad. I pass by the area on 22nd on my way home from the beach, as I get on I-264W, and I always see fairly decent homes along that road occupied by either families or a group of 20 somethings. I've never passed through there at night though.
the second one is not bad at all , i use to live just down the street from there and never once had a problem . but any where at the ocean front is not to bad police everywhere all the time. i would try and avoid va beach blvd it can get mad sketchy
thats cheap. you can't be used to seeing that in the san diego market! it would probably take at least $400 grand to get a house like those out there! i've seen houses in jersey to that equivalent down inland cape may, atlantic county, and even in lakewood, toms river, brick, and howell for just under $300 grand. it's a really good time to buy houses. a lot of older people like my grandfather tell me deals haven't been this since the 60s at least as far as interest rates go. good luck if you are in the market.
