That's what I was thinking too, last time @ IRI wore my long sleeve shorty and was fine with water temps were 67-68 degrees. Since then dropped a few degrees @ 64-65 so a little chillier but not by that much to over insulate
I don't understand having a 5mil w/ no hood. If it's cold enough for a 5mil, then I need a hood too. I don't really get it for a 4/3 either, with how good my 3/2 is (maybe if you get cold easily, idk). I can easily wear my 3/2 mutant down to hood temps.
I went Wednesday with a 3/2 spring suit and thought i was going to burn the f*** up. What a strange year!
I can also wear my 3/2 until the temp really drops but its my feet that get cold quickly which is why I go with the 5 mil boots. Nothing sucks more than having your session cut short because you are shivering and your feet have gone completely numb!
i cant handle the cold water as well as some people cause im too skinny, but was fine last week in a 3/2 with boots the air temp was really warm though. for tomorrows dawn patrol i think im goin 4/3 and gloves since the air will be in the 40s, id rather be too warm then too cold, being hot wont stop me from staying out for 4 hours but when you start to cramp up from being cold thats a session ruiner for sure
this is exactly how I feel, I was in a 3/2 a couple weeks ago and I was burning up. That's why I am just going to get a 4/3 for the year since it is better to be warmer than colder. Those cramps do indeed ruin sessions
yeah man for sure, nothings worse than when you see a good set coming and you start paddling and feel your leg freeze and cramp up causing you to miss the wave. i like to be warm so i can stay out for as long as i want. i can deal with being cold but at some point your body is going to tell you that it doesnt want to be cold anymore and youll have to go in to warm up. id rather be comfortable and be able to get a 4 hour session in then be a little chilly and have to paddle in after an hour
Totally agree. Especially December when the air gets colder. I love staying out for sometimes 6 hrs straight. Because I'm warm I can get my wave count really high and that time of year I'm normally alone in the water. Warm muscles are always better than chill and cramps.
