OK, it's time to vote

I don't know too many politicians, who will talk about surfers on their campaign trail. But having said that, politicians who are more environmentally friendly will do more for keeping our oceans and beaches protected and clean. Environmental concerns often leans to the left.

 

i don't think environmentalism is high on the list right now..

I take a more pessimistic view. Neither major party will do much FOR surfing, so which party will do the least to HARM surfing.

For the past 25 years the republican party has favored generous federal expenditures for beach replenishment. When democrats proposed cutting the federal cost sharing for beach nourishment, the republican led congress (mid 1990s) overrode it each year. I know there are plenty of valid economic reasons for pumping sand on the beach, it protects property, and drives a lot of tourism dollars into local economies.

yeah...true...and dont get me wrong i hear ya, but inlet jetties, groins, piers, outfall pipes and the like arent natural either, and those unnatural structures have created a lot of surfable waves for us in the mid atlantic.

 

agreed,and those jetties in Buxton,but their beachbreaks are better than mine because they don't pump sand,though a lot of homeowners probably wish they would.i vote no sand pumping,please

 

maybe if quicksilver or billabong sent a big ol check to fund a politicians campaign would they support something as trivial as surfing.

Im niether republican or democrat but.....(even though the next few statements may seem biased)

Obama went to punahou high school in Honolulu which is only a few miles from south shore oahu. If he were on the fence about an issue such as surfing, my guess is he would support it. Democrats are generally environmentalists and more down to earth people as some may describe as opposed to their nerdy money grubbing counterparts (republicans).
A good example of a Republican is Christine Odonnell. Somebody with no apparent grasp on any scientific information, thinks the earth is 5000 years old, jesus is going to save us from our problems, and you should go to jail for mastubation. See the Odonnell ads to the right......nuff said. Hey swellinfo, did they drop a dime or what? "paid for by friends of christine odonnell" ....Republicans see her as a moron but they are still throwing huge bucks her way because of the momentum she has in this election. If she wins Im going to run for president of the universe.

Pro= Will fund clean ocean acts stuff like that.
con= Risk losing hatteras to hippy conservationists
con2= obama is pushing to have the ban removed for near& off shore drilling on the east coast (meaning potential bp-type disasters)


Republicans:
you might get drafted

are screwed. Surfing is already illegal in my town.

 

I don't think surfing should be a reason why we vote...i think theres more important issues.. (uh yeah). im voting all incumbents out

go vote if you really think it will accomplish anything. so we should vote out democrats because they suck and give the power back to republicans because they suck? politicians don't give a flock about you. they only care about their jobs. your life won't get better until you take matters into your own hands.

If you like Socialism vote democrat. That way you can be told how much you should make, what you can spend it on, who to give the rest to, what you can eat, what doctor you can see and have some bureaucrat tell you if and when you can have your operation. Remember, you will be old then and that cancer surgery is a lot to spend on an old guy. Take a pill - that will ease the pain. Also, If you like, you can stop working and collect and get free health care. Don't worry though - the people who are still working will pay for you. That is until it does not pay to work any more (with all the tax increases and all to pay for all the free stuff). You will rely on the government for just about everything so your vote to keep them in power will be automatic. We won't need the 1st or 2nd Amendment any more because the government will not want anyone stirring up any trouble and they will protect us. When you die your kids may see a small portion of what you left them.
Some will think what I said is all BS but big government is not the answer. I'm not saying republicans are angels and always have our best interests in mind but right now I think its the only way to go. I see a strong third party in our future. PS - ever have a pleasant experience at your local DMV ? - That’s who will be running your health care very soon. Have a nice day.
