I was about to fix a large delamination on my board when I realized that I had the laminating resin but no filler. Would lamination resin work as a substitute for the filler or not?

Also, where can you buy filler besides online?

i'm assuming you're talking about q-cell. you should be able to find it at any decent surf shop (ie: not ron jon-type "shops").

is there a ding w/ the delam? or is it just a delam? where is the delam? more info would help you get a more specific answer...

You can use straight lam resin for delam repairs.
Cut an 'X' in the bubble with a razor blade and inject resin with a syringe. Push the resin to the outside edges of the delam to make sure it is all saturated and place some plastic sheet (like in the ding repair kits) and a weight (book, brick, etc) over the repair while the resin cures. Then sand flat.

No there isnt a ding with the delam. There are 3 delam spots about 3x4 inches. All of them are by the rail but not on the rail. And no im not gonna throw the board out and get a new one. I already decided to reglass the area since Ive heard that there can be some issues with the injection method after a while, so im going to cut the layer of fiberglass off and reglass.

yea deff cut out and lay cloth especially if its near the rail it will help keep the integrity of the board up. What kind of resin will you be using?

my point being (& greenlight's as well) is that you don't need filler for this sort of repair.

Here's my take having done a few delam repairs, (some better than others)

I recommend you cut and reglass, dont just inject resin.

after you cut the glass off the delaminated spots, hold 3 layers of dry 4 oz cloth, or two layers of 6 oz over the repair area. If it looks like a depression with the cloth laid in then your foam is caved in so you should buy a bit of q-cell off a local shop, and mix up pasty lam resin and build up the foam a bit to just below flush with the surrounding deck, and then reglass for a delam repair that is even.

Thats how i would do it.

Alright thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I'm gonna go ahead and get some qcell and reglass as stated above.

    Thanks again

I agree, reglassing the area is a more solid repair than injecting resin.

    Good luck with the repair
