Never had one before but would like to buy one. I would like to get the opinions from other video camera users. I want to make a surf video! What kind of camera do you use?

Any recommendations of a good product? Within $400?

Look at JVS and sonys. You can get one for under $400 easy.

My advice is to buy the sony handcam that burns the data right onto a DVD... They say you lose some quality, but you have to use all this Firewire B/S and all these adapters to get data of DV tapes... I currently have like 6 tapes, FULL of surf footage of me for the past 8 years or so... ALL SITTING ON THE TAPES cause its such a b**** to convert it to digital...

So, make yuor life easier and get the ones that burn right onto a DVD... Then you acn begin the edit process automatically...

As far as zooming and stuff, its all pretty good. I surf spots where I am surfing 400-600 yards out and my wife can zoom on and see the expession on my face while im in the lineup... I paid $350 for it like 4 years ago... It zooms so well I have to remind the wife to zoom out a bit cause when I do a really drastic turn or something she loses me for a second...

Hope that help... But the JVCs are pretty cheap and good quality....

Skip ones that write directly to DVD. Get one with a HDD/Flash memory so its already digital. Pick up something with HD so it's a little more future proof.
