I'm shopping around for a new tv and would appreciate some advice.

I'm curious about how significant the refresh rate is for TVs. There are some SICK deals for tvs with only 60Hz refresh rate. Is that too low to enjoy the high def?

Oh and uh..I've been so busy at work that i've compiled a list of black friday deals. i'll attach it for your reference. (unable to upload excel...its in txt format)

I've got a Samsung LCD (1080p 60Hz) that I got on Black Friday 2 yrs ago... I love it. When I bought it, Samsung's made the best LCD's with Sony a very close 2nd, but Sony's price was usually much higher. I contemplated getting a 120Hz, but found it wasn't worth the price at that time. The way I understood it was that you'll really only notice or benefit from the faster refresh rate with very fast movement on the screen... mainly Action Movies like the Matrix or something. When I compared the same models in 60 v 120 it was hard to really notice it. I mostly watch alot of sports, so and I didn't think there was much of a difference... The 60 Hz has been great for me.

Go with the higher one. LCD's are known for their poor refresh rate when watching sports or action movies compared to plasmas.

Refresh rate makes a world of difference for sports. Watching hockey on a 60hz compared to a 120hz is really noticeable. I can see the puck jumping around on the 60hz. For price though, if its too much money I wouldn't make the jump. But if you can afford the extra dough for the refresh rate, I would jump all over it.

On your list, you were looking at hard drives. Check out www.newegg.com for any computer hardware parts. Almost always has the best prices, and the best customer service I've ever used. Their standard shipping is extremely fast as well.

    RightCoastRipper,
I would say to absolutely go with 120Hz at the least to watch sports on an LCD. They are up to 240Hz now and the difference on an LCD is significant. You can go Plasma and it goes up to 600Hz and for sports it is the best but more expensive to run and much heavier due to glass screen. I have a Panasonic Plasma that is 5 years old. Only 720p/1080i and until it will not work any longer it will be on my wall. You can get a 720p plasma for dirt cheap.

    Hope that helps,
    Dean

    All,

Great advice. I won't go lower than 120 Hz. Considering one of those plama 720p. The refresh rate on those guys is something like 600 hz or so. $500 for 46 or 50 inches is a sick deal.

Just remember, plasma burns out much faster than an LCD, but LCD has issues with individual pixels dying, rather than the entire screen

If you go with that big of a screen you're going to want 1080p.

Also, like mentioned be for if your into sports and/or action movies (surf movies included) and such things you'll want 120Hz min.
