it would be sick to have a world tour even close to home (for me), but there probably would be less promising swell in NY

    FML.

i saw this about a week or so ago...from an over-crowding standpoint, this is gonna suck. that time of year is when the crowds are supposed to start to dwindle as shoulder season begins. instead, an event like this is going to draw a ton more people than normally frequent the coastal areas at that time of year.
there will be regional over-flow as well, as hotels sell out & people seek lodgings elsewhere. so even if you live far away from the actual contest site, there will be gawkers & pro-hos in your town. this will be even worse if they score a good hurricane swell for the event, as people will fly in from the west coast to see the event. not to mention the various pros' entourages (all of whom surf) & team managers & such.

if this happens, it'll be nuts. i don't mean to come off like a hater, but a big part of what i love about living here is the fall season, when the surf is good & the crowds significantly smaller than they are in the summer months. bringing the ASP circus to town doesn't appeal to me in that context. if it actually happens, i may have to schedule a trip during that time frame.

yeah i agree and i also hate to sound like a hater. all my bros are crazy about this ****. id rather that **** go somewhere i cant afford to be and leave me to my quiet home.i live for the fall and winter cause it thins the lineup and pumps. i live in oc md so im not in the bullseye like u guys but i am afraid of spillout like you mentioned. i like the east coast being off the radar. but when most of the worlds greatest surfers originate from this coastline its going to draw attention. im not stoked at all about this and i feel for you guys.
