the 2010 atlantic hurricane season ended on nov. 30. hard to believe it was one of the most active on record. sounds like 'steering currents' prevented a lot of storms from getting close enough to produce any real swell. anybody able to explain what steering currents are for us non-meterologists? summary here: http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2010/20101129_hurricaneseason.html http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2010/images/atlantictrackmap2010.jpg
Steering currents would be upper or lower Jet Stream winds of stronger High Pressure systems steering the Low Pressure system off the East Coast either preventing it from making landfall or pushing it futher out to sea.
