So I'm in Miami and have to travel for anything bigger than our double over toe waves. What is up with the forecasts? Sometimes I see double overhead in Palm beach or Delray but just for the morning or just for the afternoon and then nothing the other part of the day. When the day arrives the forecast makes more sense but then the actual conditions are often much smaller. I look on cams or read surf reports and question if it is worth the drive. I wish now I had headed to Central Fl where I see they have clean waste to chest high conditions. That usually involves at least one night in a hotel. It seems south Florida forecast are always better than they turn out to be. Have others noticed this?
you got it wrong traveling in search of surf is just as much a part of the experience as riding waves itself. surfing is not convenient, inconsistency is part of the deal, and getting skunked only makes the days you score that much sweeter. if you want to be a surfer, you have to pay your dues. by paying dues, i mean traveling up and down the coast, sleeping in your car, camping on the beach, and having some good times with your bros. this will mean getting skunked sometimes, but you just have to wear it and drive on if you think you want to surf.
hey, there was some issues with that last forecast in delray, where it was showing double O. If you looked at the timeline graph it was no where near double O, so hopefully we catch that bug again and will fix the issue.
Thanks for getting back. I figure there is a bug when a forecast for one beach varies so greatly form another beach just a few miles away. In any case the conditions in Miami were fantastic so I found no reason to travel. One other observation if I may. I follow forecasts for Wrightsville, Central Fl and Miami/Ft Lauderedale. I've found that the forecasts for Wrightsville are often similar to Miami/FL but the actual surf in Wrightsville turns out to be knee to chest high conditions on days forecasted to be flat, while in Miami/FL it often turns out to be placid and I mean like a lake, when it is forecasted to be knee to waste or possibly higher. (The last week was an exception as Miami turned out to be far better than forecasted.) Central Florida seems to come closer than either of the other two regions. This is just anecdotal evidence that you can take or leave.
