Hey All, I am, shall I say , an older but not over the hill surfer, I am in preatty damn good shape and can still hang and surf with the best of them. The problem is after a five or six hour session my joints hurt, is there anyone in the medical profession or anyone in general have a solution as in vitimins or any other over the counter meds I can take to relieve the pain....Thanks....peace

Shoot, after a 5 or 6 hour session, someone of any age will have sore joints! I'm not sure how old you are, but you should thank your body for allowing you to get 5 or 6 hours.

I would like to offer real nutritional advice, but I'm not qualified enough to listen to. But, I would say stretching and doing something like Yoga is very good for the joints and the whole body. Someone else, hopefully can offer some supplement advice. At the very least a good multi-vitamin is a good thing.

You may want to look for a all encompassing nutritional MD in your area. Someone who focuses on whole body rather then just the specific symptoms. That is what I am doing, and I think is good for anyone. Your health insurance probably won't cover it, but its worth it if you find a good person. The medical "specialists" are far too limited in treating only specific symptoms.

    Good luck,

Celebrex is great if you can get a prescription for it. That stuff is amazing.

Thanks for your opinion Admin and Kahuna, I will start a streching routine, I should be doing this anyhow before and after I walk each day, I also try to walk a least 3 miles a day, weather and work permitting. Admin I checked out some of your photos, man you all have some pretty wicked looking waves up there, maybe one day I'll head up that way and check 'em out. Thanks again....peace..
    P.S. I just turned 50

Its not easy, Im starting to feel old but with keeping myself in shape has had its advantage, take it from me, once you start gaining lbs. at mid age it is really hard to keep off....keep your heart pumping and exercise, thats the key...on a lighter note...nobody cuts the old man off....lol...

yeah glucosamine chondroitin is a good bet, also bromelein is a pineapple extract and is a natural anti- inflammtory. Good quality cod liver oil in liquid form rather than pill form is also extremely benefcial for many bodily processes, but also very good for joints. Finally, Arnica extract is a homeopathic rememdy that you can get in lotion form in a supplement called "traumeel" at most places like vitamin shoppe it worked wonders for me when I had arthritis due to Lyme Disease.

For really bad acute pain ibuproen is usually very helpful, but taking it on a regular basis has been said to lead to cardiovasculatr disease so its not a good idea to take it daily if you don't have to

Yoga, also. There is a really good video called "Yoga for Surfers" that will keep you flexible. Check it out.
