Agree....Plus it gives me performance anxiety!! Feel like im spending more time focused on trying to get a good shot then enjoying the day surfing. I have gotten some sick shots with it though!

I agree with the above. It is really fun to go home and look at what you got but you spend a lot of time disconected from the surfing and a lot of time focusing on the camera. I have more videos of me looking into the lens like an idiot trying to figure out if it's on or not than I do of actual good rides.

    Normal shooting rate for video

The normal rate of frame capture for video is 30 frames per sec, so I'll have to assume that your 60fps is a slo mo setting. Handy, but not necessarily vital since most editing programs can render slo-mo quite easily. As for the water worthiness of any camera. . . I have yet to see a non-housing enclosed camera float on its own, but I may be wrong. Better safe than sorry, use one of those camera life-jacket wrist leashes, it's cheap insurance @ around $10 on Amazon. http://www.swellinfo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10145

amen, i got that thing too. i must say it blows the go pro away for filming. But if you are looking for strictly POV, then go with the Go Pro.

I wanted to see everyones opinion on the go pro. Personally, I think 90% of the footage with the go pro is very shaky and gives me a headache to watch. Although I do like when people pull into huge tubes with them. When some one does a huge round house or bashes the lip the pov angle doesn't do it justice. I haven't seen a lot of still pictures from the go pro but the ones above are nice.

I just bought the Kodak play sport. I like it a lot but, like all things there are pros and cons

    Pros
-more everyday versatility than the go pro
    -cheaper
-still same great quality of picture

    Cons
-harder to get barrel shots, although it possible. I dont worry about losing it. I tie a string from my board shorts to the camera. Although one day it may bonk me
-Hard to be on a board and shot. Best if you are standing on the sandbar or have swimfins
-only rated to 10m's....dont know what the go pro is.

    go pro

I think it worked out alright this last weekend for skiing. I just got it for christmas so not that much experience. (I posted one vid in the surf vids and you can check out another on my youtube)
Like someone said before, i think the buddy system would work better, someone filming someone else. I'm going to try that in the next month with my buddy in colorado and utah when we hit the jumps and powder. This would be difficult for surfing though, like if you were trying to both ride the same wave.
I saw one video, i think they were at the outer banks, where they were catching tubes and they had it on their wrist. I thought that video was pretty sick. I'm hoping if I get creative and get some underwater shots, some shoulder shots, and some mounted on the board and wrist, there will be some good vids.
A whole video with one position kinda sucks.

i just bought the kodak playsport because of this stupid forum

im taking it to pr next week

    anyone

have any expeirence of filming POV with this camera
or advice on keeping it safe in the water ( no put in pocket feed back please )

i was thinking when im ready to catch a wave i will put it in my hand while i paddle --- then when i get " the push" ill drop it - use my hands to pop up -- then grab it off the wrist leash , and wahla im recording a wave in first person..

does this sound better , then the reality of doing it ???

    any advice

I bought my gopro in July....with the intention of using it on my motorcycle, quads dirtbike and surfing........i've used it on all of those, and I'm not too thrilled about it anymore.

On my motorcycle, even doing 80, it still looks like im going slow, same with the offroad bikes.....and in the water, I would use it more getting my buddies in barrel shots than on my board......
I would rather shell out the big dollars for the water housings for my other cameras and be able to see what I'm shooting (the go pro sells an extension that has a screen, bigger battery and larger housings for about $200 I think).

    I'm thinking of selling it....
