Number choices. PR is a great choice. Plus I dont think you need a passport to go there like most island places. I've been to Cocoa Beach FL in February. Still had to wear a 3/2 but all the locals were freezing so you got most of the waves. Air temps are like early fall up here. Lots of good breaks nearby and very cheap. Santa Cruz is awesome. The whole energy is worth the trip. My favorite place to surf in the US. . San Diego is awesome with lots of choices but you'll have to drive a bit pending where you stay. I love La Jolla best. Wetsuit for sure but the air and the girls. OMG Same with Fl. Kowabunga!
while were somewhat on the subject... last time i went away i took 2 boards in a board bag with tons of bubble wrap and towels inside for protection. boards were fine. this time i packed my boards (2 surfboards and 2 kiteboards) in one surfboard day bag with a towel in the front by the nose and towels wrapping around the boards by the tail. the boards are very tight in the bag, there is no room for them to move around or anything however there is not much cushion. do you think my boards will be okay or am i better off only bringing one surfboard and using tons of bubble wrap and towels inside?
I utilize pipe wrap from Home Depot on the rails. Use blue painter's tape to stick it to board & not leave tape marks on board. Pipe insulation rolls underneath board bottom. Thin cardboard layers on the top deck keeps the monkey baggage handler damage away (the deck damage comes from the monkeys hurling heavy suitcases in on top of the board bags & the corners of the suitcases punching through every damn thing into the deck of the top-most board in your bag). The cardboard layers are also lighter than the towels & the cardboard, if you set it correctly, doesn't shift like clothing can. The baggage monkeys are brutal. AA will tell you, when you file a claim for your wrecked stick, that they are not liable for damage to surfboards. This is, of course, after they charge you 100-200 bills to safely transport said items. And that's that, in their opinion. One big corporate F-U. Lock every damn thing. Or better yet, put fins, wax, leashes & specialty gear in your bag & lock that too. Why? Because the baggage monkey locusts in MIA will steal fins, wax, leashes from unsecured bags & you will have a naked stick & only a stick when you arrive at your destination. Speaking from hard-earned lessons....
def a thumbs up for santa cruz and central cali area. awesome lookin chicks and moderate climate with excellent waves. i will be there first two weeks of feb.
I agree. The wife and myself got a killer deal from http://www.cheapcaribbean.com/ and travelzoo.com, I think it was 5 days for $399 ea. airfare included. This was not inclusive and I prefer it that way; your food options are better. Renting a car added some cost to the trip but I'd recommend it if you really want to explore the beaches and breaks. I'm definitely going back to Barbados. I'm so jealous. Drink some Banks for me!
pretty simple, u stay on the main roads for the most part. nothing real sketchy driving-wise (making it thru the narrow streets of rincon is the hardest part). as stated before its roughly 2 hours, maybe a little more
a lot of the north facing breaks in the bahamas get a lot of swell, but i assume those islands are a good ways away from atlantis
also, has anyone ever been to Jamaica, the east side of the island? I was looking on surfline travel guide and it looks like a couple beaches can be promising there. also it is cheaaaap which is a good thing. flights into kingston(east side of the island) are super expensive from newark around 1100 round trip.flying into Montego Bay is around 400 round trip, but 83 miles from the east side of the island. driving there may be sketchy and dangerous. what do you guys think, jamaica?
Went to Jamaica once. Not a fan. I won't go back. There are better surf destinations in the Carib than Jamaica.
what didnt you like about it? where did you stay? i was thinking about tenting at jamnesia surfcamp or whatever it is called and renting a car and just driving up and dwon to the different breaks.
dude all i can say is if you go there watch out man cuz everyone will ask you if you wanna buy some weed. now if you do smoke weed than yeah you could buy some, plus i heard that the weed down there is really good.
