My fiance wants to take a weekend trip up to Newport some time in jan/feb. Was just wondering if you guys had some advice such as surf spots in the area nothing specific but general areas and any other on land suggestions you have for the area.
    Thnaks in advance

Check out Second and First Beaches, in that order IMHO. See cam linky below for 1st and 2nd beaches. Check google maps and the town is Middletown, RI.

If there's swell it's usually gonna be nice in Newport. Narragansett is awesome too.

For what to eat and the touristy/girlfriendy stuff. No help. In the summer there's a cool Lemonade truck at 2nd beach. That's all I know. I just grab a sub sandwich on my way to the highway. Hope you get some nice waves tho.
    Cheers.

    2nd beach

2nd beach is generally a little better than first but first has a smaller crowd. 2nd also holds a little bigger swell

Great place for a lazy weekend with your lady. Lots of good restaurants, and shopping for her. If the weather isn't too brutal, do the cliffwalk.

If there's a solid swell, definitely check Ruggles. I was up with my wife for the weekend once walking the cliffs, and Ruggles was going off. Of course, I had no gear or anything with me, but I took this little montage from the cliffwalk with her camera.
