Earlier in this thread someone (don't remember who) said that OBX has a hard core drug problem. I've never lived there so I don't claim to know anything but I have visited and am supprised to learn this. Bummer, the banks are beautiful
I'd say no to VA Beach.. it does get better waves than what most people think (IF you can just drop what your doing and go), but the swell window is really short due to it's positioning (look at the map), the number of surfers is becoming a real problem, parking is rediculous, it's cold and the place kinda sucks to live in. I surfed the Cocoa beach / Satellite beach area the year before that and it's much more consistant, parking is easier, and the weather is better. Also barely any girls surf in VB, just the Entire Navy Atlantic Fleet. Your much more likely to get your board run over by a Navy Seal, go up to the beach and find out your car got towed, and freeze to death waiting than you are to score good waves. Not to mention EVERYTHING is illegal in VA beach, and the cops are def not laid back by any means.
I was thinking the same thing. I been up and down the east coast and NJ has its own vibe. I'd have to say OC NJ because when theres no waves there are plenty of other things to do. Also there are jobs out there especially if your willing to drive some. A few more sluts would make it better though.
Yeah thats my point exactly there is always something to do here . That what I like about the Beach towns in CMC . I just have a thing about N Wildwood cause its close to most of the other spots in the area. I dont care what ppl say about NWW it has had it moments and this summer when it was flat or closing out at other places it held it own very well.
True, but with the new beach replenishment, it will be a while before OC will be surfable. But assateague is awesome. Either OCMD or OCNJ. Both are pretty good places. Better in winter though
I would honestly rather have real cold water than have a bunch of jellyfish/sharks. I dont wanna deal with bullsharks and tigers.
South Jersey Anywhere South Jersey... You don't even have to live on the the islands like ocnj, ventnor, margate wildwood ect.. just off the bridges prices drop and you are able to get so much more land... you can drive anywhere you want in under an hour. you have philly pretty close and for night life cant beat AC. Waves are decenct if you know the area or venture out deff find your own surf spots. And the mountains are like only a 3 hour drive you are in the middle of everything cant go wrong
actually you are wrong. spots are working, just need to know where to look. when there is swell that is.
Just for surf = Rodanthe, for all the other stuff + somewhat close proximity to the OBX = Virginia Beach.
this is a good thread but i fell southern delware (bethany beach) is great. its really become a year round town. when its flat theres always on shore waves for skim. when it gets big south side get epic. its not far from baltimore to travel and you can commute to dover for work as well. plus tons of fun places to go. its a little classier then OCMD and dewey but close enought you can still go no problem. justa great small town. Plus town of awsome and chill locals.
nyc hands down! between jerz and long island you can hit all the swell angles and wind conditions with a short drive and you're in new-york-effing-city when you go home. (and florida people, you need to get out more. you live in the seventh circle of surfing hell and you don't even know it. jax??? LOL!)
