gotcha. I had to watch the video on the HD screen and have audio coming out of my laptop. Sucks.

 

if they are in .avi format, then they have to be incomplete. Or you still have them compress in .rar format. But every video application accepts the .avi /.mpeg format as a standard. Something sounds wrong.

 

matt, RAR files are similar to WinZip files in that they are compressed files. They will not directly play as a video file nor do you need to convert them. Use winRAR to decompress them. Its free. They should have the file you are looking for compressed inside of them. If not, then I would suspect a phony site. Just right click and de-compress and you should have a video file.

Also, use VLC video player. Its free. google it and download it. It keeps u to date with every codec neccesary to play videos.

But honestly, I would get a bittorrent downloader and use a site like btjunkie.org to get all the vids you want.

Go to download.com, type "winrar" in the search box. Its the free, standard windows ".rar.: compression tool...

Just look at each file you download. Some of the videos on there are straight ".avi" downloads which are ready to go, but half of them are .RAR files. Once you install WINRAR, it will automatically open those files once you download them... Then save the extracted file to your harddrive, and then burn that file. Its a two step process to save you download time. RAR files are compressed to ease bandwidth usage on you harddrive. You restore the file back to its original size on your computer once you download it. So, I hope that helps.

That probably sounds more confusing than it really is. But that should solve all of your problems. Once the files are in .avi or .mpg format, you are in business.

 

i still believe you guys are wasting your time with burning dvds. Get an external hard drive and save all your downloads. I have had many burnt dvds become corrupted over time either from being scratched or whatever.

 

I burn them to DVD and watch them on my 70 inch HD tv rather than my laptop. I never watch stuff on my laptop unless im flying..

I am aware of the HDMI to TV thing, but as I mentioned before, I do not have a proper Audio feed. Until i get that cable. At which point I may stop burning them...

 

Also, on that surfmovies website, can you guys point out which videos (if any) are east coast surf videos? I don't recognize some of them, but I would like to check out some east coast vids. I had a good one years ago on DVR, but I forget the same. It was really dark and dreery, but had good OBX/jersey surfing in it.
