has anybody ever put handwarmer/footwarmer packs in their booties? thing that often gets me out of the water this time of year is not being able to feel my feet after a 1.5-2hrs. i have 7mm xcel boots in good shape. ive tried thin wool socks etc. many packs look like they are oxygen activated (WWW.HEATMAX.COM) so maybe they wouldnt work at all underwater, but im just curious if anybody has tried this or anything similar. for those good swells when it is really cold, my damn feet ruin the day before i even wear out paddling in a 5mil suit. related suggestions/unique ideas (beyond the inevitable stop being a pu**y kook comments) also appreciated. thanks
I tried it like three years ago didn't work at all since it does need oxygen to activate. It all in the blood ciculation to feet that's why they can't stay warm or the ankle of your suit let's to much water in.
me and a friend were just talking about this after our session on sunday. we were both fine other than our feet which were completely numb after and hour and a half when we decided to get out. we thought about the handwarmers but im not sure about that. i just ordered a pair of Hyperflex hot socks, hopefully they come this week and i can try them out next weekend and let you know if they help. i think a big part of the problem is flushing into the boots, when i took them off at my car there was a good amount of water in them so im thinking about trying some kind of ankle straps around my suit to try and tighten the seal and reduce flushing but i dont know if that will work. i definitely want to get this fixed though because i dont want to have to end a fun session early because of cold feet when we get a good swell
You could bring a thermus with you to the beach filled with hot water....when you feel your feet getting cold...get out of the water and pour the warm/hot water in your boots to get your feet warm again....then drain your boot out and hit the waves again.....
the hot sock work awsome. there is another thread where I was talking about these . I wear them with my 7 mil boots and my feet roast in them
Yea man I just got em and they work perfect. You gotta put the socks on differently if you wear split-toe booties but its not bad.
Putting grain alcohol inside the boots works really well too.. when you get cold just ignite the liquid and your feet will realy be roasting. Or maybe your supposed to drink it first? Or you can just sew and glue your boots to your suit.. like a babies onezy... no more leaking.. no more crying. The drinking of grain alcohol and burning of the feet is a proceed at your own risk advisory.
sick, hopefully they solve my problem. i see that hyperflex also makes ankle straps to reduce flushing so if i still seem to have frozen feet then maybe ill check those out. on a side note i really want that hyperflex playa hoodie, looks sick and so warm...
