I somehow stayed healthy all of my winter break, and the day a possible swell comes is the day I have to get back to school...

I had it, too (only mine turned out to be an antibiotic resistant strain of strep throat) - but I had to break my cardinal rule at work - "never take sick days for sick - go in sick, and take sick days for surf". I burned up two sick days last week lying home sick - two days that I could have used for the next swell!

ya'll sick people should check out the March '11 transworld mag. its got a section talking about being sick and when you should/shouldn't paddle out. it's pretty accurate too

I'm actually gonna take a vacation day on Wednesday if the forecast holds up. Been sick the past few days, but I think my bug peaked two nights ago. Should be good to go by Wednesday.

yea, that was a good read.

i'm starting to think that my surfing will be best served if i just throw in the towel on this winter season & just focus on getting healthy & getting fit. the lack of swell & the short days are conspiring to keep me out of the water more often then not. i've surfed once (xmas day) since november. & this flu is utterly wiping me out. even if i feel better, there's no way i'll have the energy to paddle out on weds.

i've got 3 (possibly 4) freshies coming in the next couple months (2 from ci, 1, maybe 2, from brian wynn). i gotta get myself back in order to make the most of those board come spring!

I went out today and scored some waist to chest waves in Avalon . I wasnt expectin it to be that good but it was I think it has something to do with the the beach is about 20 ft lower than what the street is some it blocks alot of the wind . I surfed for about 3 hours and wasnt disapointed with one wave I took

    Score!

Got some in S.Jersey too! Had a fun time til my feet were freezing. Surfed from 1230-330.
1-2, a rare 3 feet at best. Enough juice for take offs followed by crouches to make sections.
PS I was inspired to go by two longboarders on surfer's view on cam. Thanks!
