I live in ocean city and for college i think i'm going end up at ODU or CNU (both in newport news) so i was guessing a 1 hr drive to VA beach. what are the good surf spots down there?
false, ODU is in norfolk, and is about a 25 minute drive to vb oceanfront. When / if you make it there, you have 82 blocks of surf between the rudee inlet and fort story (entrance of the bay). South of that is croatan, then a military base, then sandbridge, then 11 miles of wildlife refuge with no vehicle access that extends until corova (northern obx). All fun beachbreaks on a good swell, all suck on an average july day. Your call. The only reason we have crowd issues is because of summer surfing restrictions. Also note that parking, swearing, loud music, and classy women are also illegal in vb.
VB surfing Leethestud preety much hit the nail on the head. The only thing I might add is that about 1 1/2-2 hours south you've got the outer banks. Usually more of a swell and often worth the drive if you've got the time and gas money.
No the waves are different in VB from OC. Look at the maps and you'll see it faces a different direction. It can be pumping in OC and flat in VB and vice versa. The options are also different
what are you getting at, bub? VB looked like playa hermosa yesterday. This whole coast CAN produce draining tubes on the right swell, from maimi to maine.
While CNU is in Newport News (aka Bad News), ODU is located in Norfolk... Norfolk happens to be much closer to VB.
