Will be in Costa Rica mainly/ then Nicaragua(Pacific) feb through early March. I move around a lot but if Pavones is breaking in the southwest you pretty much need to rent a 4*4 to get there so sharing the travel costs would be cool. I've yet to catch the place with all sections firing but my fingers are always crossed for the right direction swell for the 2nd longest left in the world...Regardless if you go to Central America and are traveling alone you will generally meet a lot of surfers at all the prime spots who are traveling around so linking up isn't much of a problem, just depends where you wanna go and I've met plenty of cool folk who are willing to travel. Just practice common sense...
The thing with Pavones is it's a ***** to get there and when it is going off everybody and their grandmother will be on it. If its long lefts you seek try the state of Michoacan in mainland Mexico. Though I wouldn't name the left points,(they are hardly a secret anymore) but they a just an desolate and 10x more consistent and much easier to get to. Mananillo is a very long left in Nicaragua and the best part is it's offshore all day every day. In all I think Nica is more consistent than CR. When I did go to CR I go a ten day flat spell, I ditched the house I rented for a month and went home.
wish I had the cash to go south for a week or two and the time to get away from work. Guess a road trip north in the fall will the only trip I go on this year
same...i'm really itching for some fun tropical surf right now, but the farthest south i'm likely to get any time soon is the outer banks.
well was in nags head this weekend on Saturday evening and there was 1/2" of snow on the gorund and 7" in buxton so aint nothing tropical about this joint right now. Granted alot less snow than Jersey.
response to surf trip good response to idea of group surf trip. at moment looking at nicaragua in april. want to do morroco and other areas of africa but i think that might take a bit more planning.so, perhaps first step is a bit more networking and setting up meeting to see if we have a good blend of personalities. i am intermediate long boarder that holds some titles in oc md and de. i quit contests after making the invitational to regionals in 2007. i am now all about free surfing and know what i can do if given the good waves. after a struggle with focus i am "in the now" when in the water and will chat but tend to watch for the next wave. that being said, if others are serious step up now.
words do not describe how much i wish i could get in on this right now. hope you have fun, wherever you end up.
I have been to Pavones recently and i think you can do it in a car just fine. April isnt really rainy season yet and the roads down there have improved by leaps and bounds in the last couple years. We got there AOK in a crappy rental diahatsu suv, but we did more mud driving in the guadacaste than down by pavones. And yes, i scored it 8-10ft, connecting all the way from the point to the rivermouth. Actually, ill pull a pic off of facebook for you, it will be grainy, but it will paint the picture...
Nice pics! Like I said hope it is firing when I'm down that way...Looks like fun and not that crowded, let's hope I didn't jinx that...
