Hey guys (and girls). Since I know a lot of people on here ski/snowboard as well as surf, I figured I'd ask what you guys think of Windham Mountain in NY. My girlfriend and I am going up there friday and I was wondering if anybody has any feedback/tips to offer. As for me, I've gone snowboarding twice, the second time resulting in a broken wrist. So any tips relating to beginners would be perfect for me.
I have some sound advice. Take some private LESSONS. So you can learn to actually carve turns and not become a human snow plow scraping the snow off as you slide sideways down the hill that's too steep for you to be on in the first place. Practice does not make you perfect, perfect practice, however can produce the desired results. Never been to this mountain, I believe it has a decent vertical drop and trail variety. However a couple more hours (or less??) north puts you in Rutland VT. Pico and Killington are right there.. excellent mountains if its not too icy.
windham is a the best mt. close to long island/jersey.. decent vertical and decent variety.. mt's in vt are better but a longer trip and more importantly back. park is crap but you won't worry about that at this point in your skill level.. some tips: get a helmet! i still wear one and i'm an advanced rider. gives you more balls to do stuff and protect your melon.(a girl just died at windham two weeks ago bc she wasn't wearing one) lessons are huge and other protective gear if you land on your wrists a lot will help you.. stay on the right runs and you'll have more fun and keep the snow on the mt. for everybody else
So how was it? Cold? Lift lines? Been going to Windham/Hunter for years... Good mountains best we get until you hit VT... But they both geth some crazy Liftlines.. Just wondering if the cold kept some people away this weekend.
Windham is a fun little mountain, it has some good terrain too. It might not have the amount of acreage that Hunter does (nearest comparison), but then again because of less terrain and its location a little further north of Hunter, it doesn't have the crowd factor of Hunter either. On another note, ditto on the lessons and helmet if you're a grom, and maybe some wrist guards too
Was there this weekend, not crowded no ice til sat late, fun but they groomed a few of the good jumps
