So i've been experiencing a problem lately due to the fact that most of my friends who got me into surfing have now quit due to A) Their lack of motivation to get off of their couches B) Jobs and C) Just being pussies during the winter season. SO now i'm left attending great waves with nobody to share them with. I was wondering if anyone out there was looking for someone to surf with in Ocean City, Maryland sometime since i keep missing the swells or having to surf with no one around.
ive been dealing with this for a few years now. i got a couple of guys who i will surf with a lot for a month or two and then they fade.... especially once the rubber goes on. i think as you get older more and more people start dropping off. the only one you can really count on is yourself. but i agree, having some of your boys to share that experience with makes it that much better, especially when you get one of those days where its good all day, and you surf for like 8 hours and then finish off the day with a few cold beers recapping all the great waves you got that day.
ill surf with you bro. im gonna go out today usually surf 45-47th or 27th. none of my friends have thick enough wetsuits to go out haha.
Same story I've got the same problem in vb bros are either away at school, working, or dont have enough rubber to charge. Learn to love the solitude. You've only got yourself in this world anyway
I don't think this guy has logged in for a while - sent him a PM anyhow. That said, I could definitely stand to link up with some people for winter sessions in OCMD or DE. All my usual crew are either out of town this winter, can't get out for whatever reason, or don't have thick enough rubber. Seeing as I'm not local and have to drive in, it's definitely more fun to have someone at the other end to share some waves with. ...I'd probably have gone today if I'd had anyone to surf with. Anybody looking to share some winter waves, give me a PM.
I feel like that happens to everyone growing up. i used to wake up at break of dawn with like 10 of my boys and surf a sunrise session, get some food, then surf for the rest of the day. Then i did the same routine a few years later with only 5 other people, now in the summer and fall i usually just go out by myself and theres always someone in the water that i know, and during the winter i have a crew, were all different in age, but it works out. Pretty much what happens is that teenagers get bored during the winter since no one is around and get into drugs.
I have this problem too, except its a year round issue... A couple guys went out with me a lot a several years ago when I first really got into surfing, now they all say they want to go out or try to use it as a reason to help them stop drinking/doing drugs... but I don't think that'll ever happen ha. I agree that it is nice to be alone, but there are always those times when I wish someone was with me. Oh well
I'm the most dedicated surfer I personally know, and I can't even get out there unless I drop a bunch of things on the schedule. This work thing is really getting in the way of my surfing. The last couple of things I've bought for myself in the past 6 months are thicker rubber. Come spring and daylight savings time I'll try to log in more sessions after work. I miss the camaraderie though, you definitely tend to take more risks and challenge yourself when you surf with a buddy or two.
True dat. I have always put surfing at the top of my priorities since I started. And I only have a few friends who surf with me in the winter sometimes, but it's never frequent and since they usually have other things to attend to, I usually surf by myself in the winter... the only time I can find people to surf with is in the summer - surprise. I guess I'm lucky that surfing has hit me so hard in the sense that my dedication is speeding up my learning curve and putting my surfing more and more ahead, and I hope to be a really solid surfer hopefully before I get old... that and I just want to get barreled. But, yeah, I've been surfing so much that I recognize almost every face in the water so I I usually find at least an acquaintance to surf with, or a co-worker, etc.
I've had the same problem with my friends, they paddle out and sit out there for a half hour and say "awe we're hungry" and stuff like "this isn't all I want to do all day"...pisses me off, but what can you do...I stopped planning surfing around them and just said F*ck it, and go by myself...more waves for me!
Its something we all come across at sometime or another. I went threw it but, I just go out there and be seen at the same place and most important be friendly and you will make new friends in and out of the water
Always lookin for someone to surf with in the winter Im in ocmd too, and im toatally with you on the friends situation, im always lookin for someone to surf with in the winter time and have no lack of dedication ... got out this morn at sunrise for an hour because i had class at wor wic at 8:30.. now if we ever get waves again i would be down to shred for sure
