i hate how neoprene hoods are soundproof. it bothers me so much more then the cold does. its like i cant even talk to anyone when i'm out there. i recognize so many faces every time i go to my local break, but the only acknolegement i can give is a head nod because my hood takes away a good 75% of my hearing. I hate hoods

I hate this as well, I always have to stick my hands in my hood to make a gab for my ear to hear someone when they are talking. It's funny though since sometimes if myself and a friend are walking on the beach to get back out and there are people who don't surf they probably think we are stupid for yelling at each other since we cant hear.

i seen someone out on monday without a hood. he must have some serious pain tolerance. he had a shortboard, and was duckdiving just as much as everyone else. it didnt seem to bother him. I went out in low 50 degree water without a hood once, and i swear i nearly blacked out. i cant imagine trying to go hoodless with these water temps.

I used to do it without the hood.... Ok for a duck diver or two, third one I would start to feel dizzy and then the headaches. Give me the hood please! LOL

funny, that's probably one of the things i like most about the hood. not listening to ppl's bs...

not like it matters, though. there are never waves anymore.

I was out probably 2 weeks ago or so .. superbowl Sunday and didn't wear my hood both sessions .. kind of painful for a few seconds after a duckdive but was tolerable for 3+ hrs ... bring on some real waves!

I love not being able to hear other people. 99 percent of the conversations I hear in the water are so inane, anyway. I do miss hearing the sounds of the waves and seagulls and whatnot, though. The first time you pull that hood down it's like an entire other element of the experience comes back to you.

I wonder if extended time in cold wate, especially your head, can cause or bring on a cold or flu easier
