I would normally surf alone from October til about May but this year I finally convinced one of my surf buds to buy winter gear. I said it was head high about once every two weeks which, in previous years, is more or less true. However, this year, we surfed X-mas day in Hatteras which was freakin epic and it was crap in VB and we went on that one tuesday in January. That was the last time we surfed. I feel like a shmuck cuz I got him to spend all that cash on the gear and it really has not been worth it. And don't tell me I should go surfing if it is only waist high; I'm not freezing my nuts off for that crap. Ahh, can't take it anymore, I'm finished with my degree in June and I'm off to greener pastures out west cuz I cant take this freezing cold and flatness anymore.

Good to know that at least it was an unusually flat this winter, and that it's not the norm. The only time I got really good weekend of surf is when I went back home to FL for a weekend. 2 days of clean chest high days and a 3/2. I can't wait for water to reach the 50s so I could slip back into that here in VB.

Man its been bad here this year. This is definately not the norm. This is usually the time of year I look forward to too. They say fall is best with the hurricanes but that is too hit or miss; I personally think January to May is with the lows that pass the region that set up wind swell. If the wind can keep up for 2 or 3days from anywhere from the south or the north-northwest at about 25 knots or more and then either lighten up to about 5 to 10 knots or go offshore, VB gets damn good, not to mention down south. The surf can last for days then too. I mean, when is the last time that the Chesapeake Bay was rideable? I did read that surfline article though that baasically said that the winds from the lows wouldn't last long enough to make any sizeable swell this year. Who knows? Nah though, def not the norm for VB and Hatteras.
