I'm transferring down to this area in about 3 months what's the best board for that area? I have a 5'10 right now and I know that isn't going to fly with the wave conditions in that area. Appreciate the input!

Id try the waves first with your board. "That area" is not really specific, as this covers NW W SW S facing beaches that have alot of different breaks on the gulf, from big rollers outside cane swell to tight power shoulder high barrels.....Its always different,,,,a specific area and maybe a local could give feedback....:D

    Alot will depend...

If your coming in 3 months.....it will be SMALL! Unless we get a disturbance in the GOM everything is very little.

Get a longboard to go with your short.

As posted there is alot of different looks up here depending on where you are exactly but in spring and late summer a 5'10 should be fine.

    From OBX?

Since you're coming from up there (and depending on your ht/wt) I would recommend a fun shape or a thicker-wider board. The waves here can have good form but they are weaker than what you're used to on OBX. You'll still get some warm, clear, pretty water and maybe a few good days if you're luck. Line-ups are pretty laid-back too.

I agree with waterhead, a good fish or a nice rounded out fun shape will cover almost everything this place will through at you. You will see everything from overhead to two feet, but the waves break much sooner with a lot less speed/power than you may be used to. Hurricane season can bring some great swells and the winter brings cold water and choppy surf, but still surfable!

    Not a surfer...just a beach goer

Can I get swimming information? I am mostly interested in the beaches of Okaloosa Island, Destin, Navarre and Pensacola. But I would like to visit other beaches too!

depending on your size a 5'10 isnt nessacarily not gonna work..but you should def have a bigger board on tap.i dont longboard but i keep a 1970 hobie 7'1" for the small and/or mushy days...and you never know if your gonna get sum 12+ft hurricane swell
