hail to the kook As discussed in other threads , my surfing will talk louder than my kookboard. I'm good at shortboarding but want a cheap log for summer, why wouldn't I buy a new 100$ funboard from Costco
because its not a log. Its a sponge. Its flexible, it absorbs water, it has zero concave, it was made for children. I doubt its any more buoyant than your short board. Guarantee you I could totally destroy one in a decent session. Do yourself a favor, buy a 10 year old log.
I did not know that. It's hard to find cheap logs in long branch. people sell there used boards for wayyy too much. which is exactly what the original poster was whining about with the bics.
My buddy has a HEAVYYYYY maybe 10'6-11' Longboard hanging on my wall in Brigantine. I think he said he wanted $4-500 for it. I can take some pics if your interested
I can just picture paddling out at this Spot and people saying "like oh. my. god. what a loser? who buys surfboards at like Costco?! I know right? like what a kook!" Everybody whos anybody knows that only kooks ride boards other than Channel Islands. like DUH
well the plan was to windsurf when there were no waves and surf when there was. But, i got tired of setting up all the gear to windsurf. So I decided to sell the windsurfing gear and get a kayak to fish. Then i sold the kayak and got a boat, then I had kids so i sold the boat and bought a couple of boards. Ultimately though I had to decide on only one summer pastime so could spend time with the kids and I wasn't ever going to give up surfing. windsurfing is fun for sure, but i dont have the time for it.
yeah, "bra", because thats, like, exactly what I was implying (8===>). Took the words right out of my mouth. If you want to buy one, thats cool- Or you could just give me $130 to kick you in the nuts and we can save the trouble. Like I keep saying, lets have the costco surfboard discussion after the first summer swell. I still stand by it... stereotypes are based on reality. Someone paddles out on a kook board, well, its probably a good preview of whats to follow. Not always true, for example: Some guy shows up at my spot on a firewire fish, a psycho 2, and long surfer dude hair. I figure he is traveling or just relocated. Nope, just some noob that went on a shopping spree. But you know what? I still shared waves with him. I judged him for sucking with all of that sick gear, but I still let him get some. Moral of the story- all of you "rippers" that plan on getting kook boards (for whatever reason)... have fun with that.
i like how he lists these two characteristics of the board side by side "indestructible, few side dings,"
I wouldn't call them indestructable, but they can definitely take a beating like no other board I've ever rode. They are built like a tank and weigh about as much as one too. One can get years of use out of them. That being said they don't have the feel and response of a regular log. Don't get me wrong you can get good rides with em, but they lack the finesse and flex of a foam board. But $425...WTF!!, for that much money I'll break the bank and buy something new.
What? i guess they're okay for like beach break, since they are basically indestructible. but otherwise, they suck. My little brother has one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K764p1fbPPY&feature=related Sucks to have to be riding a bic when there are waves like that. but somehow they're actually getting rides
the bics seem to work fine in that video. not sure how you are coming to the conclusion that they suck. being indestructible is a quality in my book, not a flaw.
My little brother has one. I try to ride it every once in a while. catching waves is a ***** with it, and then it just feels sloppy when im riding it.
