I agree with Echo Movement, but my favorite band from this area is Status Green. They don't have the surfy feel like Echo Movement, but they are very catchy and are on the rise. River City Extension is very good as well.

Snapppp. I did not know Parlor mob was from Red Bank. I saw them at Stone pony last winter - simply amazing. The lead singer's voice sounds the same as on the studio album.

Nobody mentioned Gaslight Anthem. I dont think they are from monmouth, but def from jersey. They sound a lot like bruce springsteen (IMO) softer sound, but still good.

Some kid i went to HS with (shoot 10 years ago...) was telling me about a band his brother started, Status green. I still havent listened to them, maybe its time...

Vampire weekend lead singer and drummer are from NJ (North i think)

I second Status Green, Lou's awesome

if you like Metal and awesome instrumental work than Last Red Ember is one of the best nj bands(all from ocean county) and Negative Sky as well.

I have no idea how to post a link and i dont care to learn, but im sure you can find both these bands on fb and reverbnation.
