If i get one I want to feel like im riding the wave as i watch the vid, not look at the goofy faces i make.
Because they want that awesome barrel shot but it never gives you great perception of the barrel (speaking of a typical mount). I personally always keep mine forward and adjust angles vertically.
do you go wide angle/tall angle/normal angle? cause usually it says go tall if facing yourself i got a HD Hero go pro for christmas and got injured new years so i havent tested it yet
I always wondered the same thing, it makes much more sense to point it towards where your going instead of at yourself the whole time...
I have one and it works great. But... the video is hard to watch since it is pointing at where you were rather than where you are going. Don't even bother putting it on the nose and turning it looking forward. It looks terrible like that all you see is your board going up and down, you really need to mount it on the tail but it has to be raised up or it gets covered in water during the whole ride (unless your on a longboard). I wore a head mount once to see if that would work but it sucked, with lots of vid of my feet and the board sliding up and down on the wave. To me the best part of the camera are the stills that you can lift off of the video. They can look cool even with it looking at my ugly mug.

I have one of the first 1080 gopro’s off the boat and have been experimenting with it since I got it. I am a mountain biker (primary activity) and have gotten limited good results doing that (tried everything but chest mount which from what I can tell gets the best results off road.) On road the video is solid and one of the best perspectives I’ve gotten is mounted on the fork. It show’s the wheel and the road which produces good motion(action.) Mounted on the stem that show’s both drops and hands and road is really good as well. I’ve also used it snowboarding. I mounted it on my boot facing forward but the perspective shifts too much left and right. The helmet mount yelded steady results because you shift your center/lower body more than your head/upper body. Helmet mount has been the best. I have just bought my first surfboard (9feet for upper Texas surfing.) The best position for surfing small waves is pointing at the action, the person. Pointing the camera forward with no point of reference won’t produce a very good video (total shortboard ripping excluded I cannot comment or stupid barrel rides.) If you wanted a video of action in small waves, as dorky as it looks, the head strap might be the best option because it will capture at least a little of the board to show action and all of the wave. In short it’s about perspective and action. I have mounted the cam to the very tip and will be experimenting with in over the next couple of weeks.
Funny, I always use the r4 mode but I believe others had better viewing using one of the other modes while facing forward. Haven't really used it lately so I forget exactly. I have also used it snowboarding in the r4 mode. Now I wish I would have tried a couple modes to see the difference.
rgnsup r5 forward will produce a higher definition vid and a narrow degree angle which will reduce a little of the fisheye effect. r4 at 960 isnt bad anything below that gets wonky but a LOT of surf vids i've seen utilize that effect.
head mount costs $14.99... that's your best bet...just make sure u strap it down or wear a hoodie over it.

Surf Mount for gopro anyone have any problems with the gopro mount coming off the board. Just mounted mine on a new board. Wondering if I need to seal the edges with some glass.
