Today I pulled up weather.com and the front page is a map with a huge L sitting right off of the carolina coast. Much to my surprise, the forecasts for vb/obx dont show much activity. Friday in Hatteras shows it dropping from 5 feet to flat in a matter of hours, in light offshores. Is the swell model tripping or is this going to be a weird few days?
Four married guys go surfing and got into this conversation: First guy: "You have no idea what I had to do to be able to come out surfing this morning. I had to promise my wife that I will paint every room in the house next weekend." Second guy: "That's nothing, I had to promise my wife that I will build her a new deck for the pool." Third guy: "Man, you both have it easy! I had to promise my wife that I will remodel the kitchen for her." The fourth guy just smiles. So they asked him. You haven't said anything about what you had to do to be able to come surfing this weekend. What's the deal?" Fourth guy: "I just set my alarm for 5:30 am. When it went off, I shut off my alarm, gave the wife a nudge and said, "Surf or Sex" and she said, "Wear sun-block."
Seems like there should be something Yeah im not sure why the forecast are so bad, Surfline is calling for Friday to be decnt but it looks like morning only as the winds will blowing hard from the wNW which will blow hwatever swell out quickly. Last few sessions i have had this site has been right no compared to surfline. Friday morning is about all we will get for surf this week/weekend it looks like.
the timeline showing a drop off like that is somewhat misleading, and I would like to work to be make these scenarios show better. What you are seeing is a lot of SSW in this swell. So, basically the timeline is dropping off, when it sees that the primary swell direction is out of the swell window. This isn't exactly how it works in the real world though, where a degree or two in the swell direction will make that much difference. The buxton location is particularly vulnerable to this. The Rodanthe location isn't as much: http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/rodanthe-north-carolina.html Like I said, I will work on making these scenarios better in time. As of now, the low off the coast looks interesting. But, as we stand now, for OBX, but the offshores do look to blow pretty hard on Friday. Keep checking the updates, and keep in mind that the drop off, like you are seeing now, is showing due to the swell angle going more out to sea. Use the Rodanthe forecast as well to compare.
ehh im thinking the forcast is about right...id say shoulder high... head high in the right place..looks like its going to blow off the coast pretty quick so.... and not def not lasting till sat. half the size by dark...ill have fun on my day off
The waves I was hoping we would get something, and rihgt now it as of Thrusday morning looks to be waist high but its pretty blown out. It feels like summer in the fact that im just hoping for a decent couple of days with decent swell. Been like 2 and half weeks of crap surf. I surfed last weekend here in VB just to get wet. Waist high slop is all it was but had to paddle out. Hoping this SE swell forecasted for next week brings something half way fun.
Fukcing sick super clean barrrreellls!!!!! Wooooo yeahhh yeah i also paddled into a lake today happy April fools
