Longboard advice

    I have a funboard and a shortboard but recently I have been thinking about getting a longboard. Does anyone have any advice on what companies to buy or how long would be a good longboard size

    Depend on how much u wanna spend you can get a pop out for 500 bucks or get something a nice as a Bing or a Cooperfish for alot of money

    Brian Wynn makes a sweet log and isnt too expensive either you get really get quality and they perform good too.

    Far as size that depends on what u wanna do . I tend to stay not to go smaller than 9'6 length 23 1/2 wide . Thicknesses and nose and tail width vary between what type of longboard I getting that also goes for rails and concaves

    Best thing you can do I go to a cpl shops and see what they got on the rack new and used

    the size of board you want will depend on what you want to do
    but also on your height and weight, and to a lesser degree what size wave you're looking to surf it on.

    If you're just looking for a longboard to ride in small summer surf and are not too interested in noseriding/triming then pretty much any modern shape board will do.

    However if you want to ride a long board for real (noseriding, crosssteping, hang 5/10, etc...) then boards become very important.

    You might want to check out Tim Noltes boards. He makes some great boards and a nice cross between modern shape with a heavier glassing. They are some fun boards. His HPNR is a real nice longboard to start with and comes in at a moderate price.

    Check out Nolte for sure. He has shaped 4 boards for me over the years and for several friends as well. All great quality and performance. He wouldn't sell you something that he doesn't think is right for you. if you can get down to his shop in Harbinger, NC it's worth the trip just to talk to Tim about board shape. A number of shops in mid atlantic carry his boards as well. Check out his web site. Has a lot of info and some great video of Tim riding a stand up after Huricane Bill at the Outer Banks.

    Tim is a great guy. Easy to deal with and talk too.
    Only have had one board from him, but I still regret getting rid it of it.

    If you are in NJ you should go see Tom Mahady. He made me a killer longboard and he's an awesome guy to deal with. After riding the board he made me I feel that my surfing has improved dramatically. Fast and very responsive it's become my first choice to take out. I'm not affiliated with him just sharing the stoke. :)

    Tim is the man. I'm waiting on a new one from him now. His quality is 1st class. He shapes poly and epoxy (not the pop out crap we associate epoxy with).
