watching that, i tried to justify what the dude said....

"i tell everybody watch out, because im going to drop in on you"

I dont know, i'd be effin pissed. He put that dude in a bad place... between a death pit and a paddle boarder. They are lucky it all worked out so well.

A guy on an SUP dropping in on a guy towing in, isn't that one of the signs of a coming apocalypse?

ive never done it and SUP seems really fun and all but nobody forced that guy to paddle out. having an attitude of "well, i cant really get down and dive under the coming set so i have to drop in on you", just isn't cool. especially at a wave as intense as teahupoo

the most telling remark in that piece is when veta david says, "i didn't even know he was behind me until the end..." what a f--king @$$! if he'd gotten clipped, he'd likely have taken towner out w/ his kayak & possibly gotten him killed...classless move on his part. those are not conditions for SUPs. period.

Laurie Towner defines the reason why surfers hate SUPers.
"I'm surfing a giant ****ing cruise ship, so I get to drop in on you even if we're surfing massive death waves at chopes".

cruise ship haha. those boards were the worst invention ever. mys well take a boat out and paddle around in it. i mean their like 15 foot long which is bigger than some boats people drive with engines on them.

sups look pretty cool, and like a good workout, and fun to try sometime. i think it's a huge liability though when they hit the water at surf breaks during surfable swells.

i would love to see any of you guys try to tell poto, a legend in tahiti, that he doesnt have the "right" to SUP at his home spot. I'm not a personal advocate of stand up, but the guy with that sort of talent and time honored reputation in that line-up, and i think its safe to say that Laurie Towner knew that he got what people get when visiting waves abroad and he said it himself that he was stoked that they both got to experience. Can't that be enough for you all drama queens? The fact is that NONE of us would have paddled/towed/SUP'd that wave so what the hell are we arguing about.
