I live in NC and me and my dad are going up to OCMD around the 18th and 19th for a little surf road trip going from there to VB and then down to the banks. i have never surfed OCMD of VB so I have no idea what to expect. I was wondering if any of y'all can give me some advice on board choice and what rubber i need to bring. Any info is appreciated.
If theres swell ocmd can break from uptown-the teague good 3.2 no gloves, maybe by then no boots either.
some advice on ocmd, dont go unless theres a decent swell. otherwise save you gas and spend the extra cash and stay a second day in VB
Just make sure to say hey to me and my friends here's a clip of us back in the day before a surf. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GCgZyDFeQU&feature=related Don't worry were actually pretty friendly....
To me OC can definitely dump fast and hard, especially on the out going tide at particular spots. I find it difficult to long board in OC, again at particular spots and on the out going tide. I love Assateague, especially on a chest high or bigger day. Sometimes if OC is shutting down the teague might be working. That's just me. Have fun either way. Stop by Malibu's surf shop - those guys are great. Also, I suggest a breakfast at the Bayside Skillet.
a good 3.2 will work and a set of booties, 5 mil/ 3mil etc. If ya have a short sleeve 2 mil full bring that too for the outer banks. Depending on where you surf along highway 12 you may need your 3/2 and booties like in VB but it can also be 10 degerees warmer around the point in buxton so... 3/2 and booties and all the other rubber you have like 2 mil short sleeve full, spring suit, adnd some board shorts. Where do you live in NC?
Thanks for all the help. The reason we are planning this trip is because my dad has business up there anyway so once he is done i am flying up and meeting him in Maryland. From there we figured why not hit those 3 spots on the drive back to NC. Zansurf that was some funny sh!t haha i got a good laugh out of that and bushwood right now i'm staying in Raleigh for school at NC State.
I agree with yetiatthejetty 100% on the surf. But Baside Skillet is a little pricey for me and the pink decor outside gives me a headache. Food is good though. You can try Generals Kitchen a block or so south of the Skillet get filled up and can skip lunch for 1/2 the price. Hope you catch a nice off shore breeze.
saw a guy out in trunks and a long sleeve top yesterday in ocmd - he was shivering a bit and moving slow, lasted about 1/2 hr in the 58 deg water
Thanks for all the help and spreading stoke. Looks like y'all are gonna get some swell this week so go charge it. hopefully i'll bring some more next week.
