Whats up with all the "will it be worth it?" posts? Nobody knows...

if the winds die off overnight, theres six feet of swell and your alternative to surfing is going to work early then yes it might be worth it.

If the winds are onshore, and going in late gets you fired, then might not be worth it.

    dear epic,

first of all, blow me. I am probably one of the few dedicated surfers from this area who surf all year round and respect the surf and the people in the water no matter where from or how good you are. Second of all who cares?!? Would you have the balls to wake up at 4 30 drive "down" and surf for 1.5 hrs before heading back for a part time job?

    cheers buddy,

    908

You can hurl all the tired, boring localism B.S. at 908 you want, but the reality is these guys who get up at 4 am, drive down to surf and then head in to work are the most hard core dedicated surfers among us.

Anyway, it was worth it. Hope you made the drive.

and 908, if you want to DM me I'll give ya my contact info in case you need an eyes on report some morning. I'll tell you if it's good and maybe tell you where epic is surfing so you can and all your buds can paddle out next to him.

The wind was onshore (light) and it was fun, if you didnt paddle out you missed some fn ones.

That's the funniest **** I ever heard. I doubt they are the most hard code. The once a month they drive down definitely when surfline tells them to makes them hard core. I hope you realize that many locals who actually live in the beach town work earlier than the typical 9am and hit it at first light. Then, actually go to a full time job, not a part time job. They also surf during all conditions and hit it at DP several times a week. Not just when the forecasting sights or other people tell them to go. People like playing follow the leader and can't think for themselves. Check the cams and check the bouy reports. If you know anything about surfing or have been surfing (hardcore) as you say, you would know how different spots break, what tides work, etc. The buoy reports are enough to tell if it will be decent because you can see swell height, period and wind. Then, it's just a matter of knowing the tides (not hard to find out) and how different spots break at the different tides.

Check the data and you can make a pretty good decision even if it's not 100%. Or people on here can give you eyes on report and wipe your ass for you just like mommy does.

Says the guy who gives surf reports out over Twitter. Wouldn't giving surf reports out over Twitter encourage us bennies who can't see the ocean from where we live to paddle out?

haha yes ^ this. If driving farther than everyone else makes you hard core... then im the next shaun white! The reality is that the dudes that live on the mountain shred way harder than I do, and that the guys who live at the beach surf better than you guys who make that road trip once a month. I work AT LEAST 40 hrs a week but still surf as much as twice a day if its good. Living near the beach is key. Would you make the drive for 3 foot side shore waves? Because thats what ill be riding while your playing xbox because its not good enough for the drive. East coast surfing is a matter of opportunity. Living an hour plus from the beach may be necessary for your lifestyle, but dont be confused, putting miles on your car is not making you a "hardcore" surfer, putting miles on your board does that.

Its all about having fun, but if you claim some bullsh*t, this site is quick to call it.

Well, I'm just speaking from experience. I spent a good chunk of my life as an inland surfer doing long drives from 609, 201, 908 and 732 just to show up for a chance of maybe catching it good. (Nothing like driving an hour in predawn February darkness when it's 15 degrees out only to find it's blown out and you have to drive back) And I've spent about 1/3 of my life living within 15 minutes of the beach.

I'm just saying it took waaaay more sacrifice, more money, more time etc. to be a surfer and actually surf when I lived inland. Even in the dead of winter it's not too hard to call yourself "hard core" when you live near the beach.

We should give guys like 908 some credit for their insane levels of stoke instead of dumping on them.

Also, I'm not talking about levels of ability here. I'm talking about levels of dedication.

epic tweets! Whatever haters... Yes it WAS worth the wake up and I did score some fun ones. A great way to start the weekend. East coast surfing is def a matter of opportunity and has little to do with ability levels or what you surf on, good point. So cheers to the guys backing me up here, I dont see why any one wouldn't. Great points.

Plenty of waves for those who are lucky enough to live within 15 min of the ocean or hours from the ocean. Relaxxxxxx. Have a good weekend.

im from the 908, are you implying im a benny then too? hows this. i went to school in philly 215 and still came to every swell. still a benny? okay fine, how about i live 2 minutes from the beach, now. im still a benny then. oh wait, i surfed all year round every year since i began, meaning i surfed in the dead of winter in my 3rd month of surfing ever. i guess im just a ****head benny then since im from 908. yup.

in fact, since im now a benny im gonna drive the 5 minutes down to lavalette and start ****ting on the beach and tossing my empty beer cans on your front porch. i might as well play the part if im getting labeled as such

Yes, people with summer houses are bennys too. That's ok. You guys are bennys and I'm an ahole. I can handle the truth, why can't you, lol. Just having some fun. Don't get the panties in a bunch. My response was for the original post. People should put the time in and figure out when to surf themselves. Too many people are handed things these days and don't put any effort in it. All of the tools are there to determine if you should surf even if you live far away.
