Well i am leaving for Costa Rica in two weeks. Dont know much about the trip since i didnt plan it. I think we are traveling all over but the last three days we are staying in Guanacaste. This is the hotel we are staying at http://www.nacazcol.com/. They give you a list of beaches that are fairly close to the hotel which are: Playa Ocotal 10 Km. / 6.5 milles Playas del Coco 5 Km. / 3.2 milles Playa Hermosa 6 Km. / 3.92 milles Playa Panamá 10 Km. / 6.5 milles Haven't been to Costa Rica ever and don't know much. I am pretty good surfer so looking to score waves. Anyone know if any of these beaches are good surfing or is there any close by? Thanks a lot
http://www.surf-costarica.com/surfing.shtml that's from the first result of my google search. i've been there 3x & you will find surf just about anywhere at this time of the year, just look around.
Yea i know i can find stuff off Google too I was just looking for other peoples opinions and first hand experiences, stuff like that thanks though.
OK Bro you are a little far North for the popular surf spots in Guanacaste..I have been through costa several times and have spent a few trips just in that region and there is no surf that I know of in Octagal, hermosa, panama the popular Hermosa is in puntaranes which is no where near where you will be. Your best bet is to see how far Playa GRande is from you I believe you are north of there. OR see if you can get on a boat and goto Whitches they leave from the area that you will be near. Grande is the furthest beach North that I have surfed in that region even though there are a few more lesser known spots up past Grande... Let me know if you need any other help i am doing my 8th trip next month...
Alright thanks bro yea i didnt plan the trip was just invited to go and see what happens i normally dont leave the East Coast
I'm here in CR right now, staying in Jaco in the Puntarenas province, 1st time visit too. I already love it here and dreading my return back to the states. The surf, surroundings, food, and the beautiful people. I have only been renting boards and surfed a couple of spots around my area. Little by little I'm starting to find the difficulties with the logistics of travelling throughout the region, but then again it's my 1st time, w/ my SO. But I think the familiarity comes with time and frequency of visits, and I certainly plan on doing more return trips.
haha you can never tell which hermosas and matapolo's are any good! I have found excellent surf at the hermosa near Jaco and also at the one just to the south of dominical & dominicalito. Just look at the map and do a little exploring. This time of the year big swells come through and shut down all of the beach breaks for a few days while coves and points are pumping. From the geography of that spot you listed I would say that you will find waves A>O>K> Pura Vida dude, i was there this time last year and it pains me to watch the sh*tty vb cams when I know how much CR is firing!
http://www.crsurf.com/ Try this site, on top header, click on "surf map" in blue, wait for blue icons to load then click on the one in your area for narritive, you should find it helpful ..............
I can't second this enough. We were in Playa Grande last July and the first couple of days the swell angle was dead straight on, conditions were a mess. We could have gone south into Tamarindo where it would be cleaner but crowded. Instead we drove north and found spots that were protected and uncrowded. It's amazing how much swell can wrap into some of those coves, and how groomed it gets. My son and I had a spot that was waist+ and clean all to ourselves. It that same wave had been breaking anywhere in Delmarva in July there would have been 50 guys on it. Some very cool spots in CR aren't on the maps. And there are points to surf up there. But you need 4-wheel SUV to really take advantage. Good luck. I think you'll find waves.
check the swell hitting CR's pacific coast right now..oh yeah well overhead for next few days..and then next week too. may is wave season! pura vida
Here' a couple of pics of me surfing in Manuel Antonio earlier this week. Jaco was going off on our last night yesterday, didn't get to go out, but got a few good pics and vids. Will upload some when I get back. Have fun!
A lot of the beaches you mentioned are not known for surfing and are consistently pretty flat, not to say they never have waves. There were several sites listed that can give you some info and if you have a car you can definitely find some waves. Advice, wake up early and explore.
Thanks everyone yea I am so stoked going down there we are taking a trip like all over the country, vistitin the gulf coast then going through the jungle ending up on the pacific. So ill have only like 2-3 surf days just looking to catch a few nothing major. Just seeing if anyone else went to this area.
