Hey I'm going to be on the cape this weekend and I like to surf waves like 3-5 feet so it seems like I'm going to have some options. I usually go to North Shore, MA and Newport, RI so I am unfamiliar with the area. Any beach suggestions or surf shop numbers I can call for day-of surf report? Should I be trying to surf the south shore of the cape or is the swell blocked by the islands, in which case I'd be aiming for the eastern shore? These are the questions I don't know the answers to. Thanks in advance.

If you are on the cape, only the east facing shores pick up any kind of groundswell. Judging by the forecast, there's going to be a nice 3 to 3.5' @ 10 sec. swell in the water through the weekend starting on Friday. The SW winds are also offshore. Best place to start is at the Cape National Seashore. There are other spots, but its best you find them on your own. Tuesday morning may hold some promise for Martha's Vineyard, but its not worth the hassle (private property, permit parking only, etc) unless the swell is solid South East with WNW winds.

Head out to the eastern shore, if its low tide, goto Coast Guard beach, high tide, go to the surf shop and ask... Eastham is a great place to start....
