Sorry in advance for this I know there are already others... but my question is VB specific. Returning to VB after a year or so for the summer (ugh). Limited room in the board bag. Is the morning session still calling for like a top (I got a two mil & .5 long sleeve). I don't imagine a suit is necessary any longer but I remember early summer upwelling that was cold on naked skin and it taking a while to warm up. Surfing 87 degree water year round for a while makes me unsure and I can't really just check it for myself. Any VBers got some ideas from the last few day's go-outs?
The air temp has been really hot so the slightly chilly water feels nice. The .5 would prob be nice for dawn patrol though or if the air temp drops.
Its starting to get that sticky humid feeling here now, even in the mornings (Starting this week, I've been a little uncomfortable warm in a 3/2). I think with a thin top you'd be more than fine now, and probably even without one - especially without a lot of wind! Just my opinion
Bring both tops. And a spring suit if you've got it. The VB humidity just started a week ago, so days have been pretty hot, but the water is still chilly. I'd be cold out there if we go back to mid-May's no humid, breezy days. But at this point we're probably out of the woods. Bring the tops for morning sessions.
If it's anything like kill devil hills today where it was hotter than two rats f'n in a wool sock outside the water was pretty dang cold...I was in for about 10 mins swimming around and it was freezing...guess it was the upwelling, water temp had to be about 60 or lower. I'd pop a top on if ya got it, if not maybe wait for an east wind to blow some warm water in. I was out this past weekend in just trunks and it was alright, so ya never know. I would bring it along just in case.
