alright guys I need to pick up a nice watch with tide and maybe moon phases (as well as other normal watch features) to help me plan my sessions. i've been looking at some casio g-shock, I hear they're really great all around. I can use ebay so under 100$ for a new g-shock is common is there a better watch rather than the g-shocks? if so or if not, please share with me what you use or some watches
I like the Rip Curl Oceantide. I'm on my second one. It's a simpler version of the Tidemasters. And after just checking, found this one brand new for $53. I would buy it now if i didnt already have 4 watches. http://cgi.ebay.com/RIP-CURL-A1006-...583671335?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item35afdb9a27
this is usually a heated debate, but I will once again chime in with my vote: The freestyle shark/tide watch. It is like $70, durable as all hell. Has lasted me 6 years so far. Still a beast. Its not flashy or anything, but it is a great watch for any open ocean swimmer or surfer. Most other watches are too focused on fashion etc. The freestyle watches are basic and run perfectly. I have my tides currently set to OC MD, SD and Maui and it is always spot on.
G-shocks are really nice and they have a lot of choices to choose from. Mine has lasted a long time. check out their website to see all the choices.
i really want a g shock though, i like the fashion but I also want it for the tide especially and features like alarm, moon phase, etc. i know some watches are programmable to certain beaches, but idk how the g -shock tide works, is that the case, like can i program it to monmouth or anywhere in NJ?
if you want a real surf watch. dont get g shock. those are for stupied ass black peope. get the rip curl tresels watch. http://www.surfboardsetc.com/displa...ord=trestles&gclid=CLLvis2sg6cCFYpN2god33Q7eA it has everything you could think of.
Just get a lowdown or the housing from Nixon. Both are cheap and easy and will last. The people i deal with coming back in the shop with watch problems are some of the other companies. Plus with nixon if anything happens to it they will replace it depending on what was wrong with it.
WOW, not only have you dissed an entire race, your talking trash about G-shocks? When did shock proof athletic watches become a race thing? Your an idiot. OP_ Get a Gshock Golfman- proven mission after mission by every seal team in the country. And, i guess, some black people. Mine was a gift, but i think they are around or under the $100 mark. As for your question about the tide setting, it is based on the lunitidal interval. It only accepts one, but I have found it accurate within a couple hundred miles of coast line for a central setting. For example, VB lunitidal interval works (within minutes) from chrystal coast up to OC maryland. It doesn't vary as much as you might think. The only thing you lack from surf-specific watches is the ability to switch east / west coast tides. Thats where the major tidal change takes place. AND YOU DONT LOOK LIKE SOME TRENDY GROM WHO BUYS EVERYTHING THEY SEE IN A SURFER MAG.
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=g+shock+gulfman+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=Gshock+Golfman&_rdc=1 A lot of choices here and @leethestud you're the man, thanks for calling out the racism dude.
I got the Original Ocean Tide from Rip Curl it was a really good watch . Its so old that it only kept accurate tide data from 98 when I got it to 2008 LOL. The Nixon is a really good tide watch too very slim and not bulky too . If I was on your budget i would go with nixon . Only down side there warranty dept is slow
Casio Pathfinder, Pretty cool watch.Only like $30 bucks on Amazon and does have the moon phase function.
Well today I got the Lodown in Black and Blue for 78 bucks . It took a couple mins to figure out how to set the time and tide but after 5 mins of fumbling with it I got it . I reallly like the watch . The light is bright and I like the duel time / Dual tide so I got he 2 local breaks I surf the most and when I wanna figure out what the tide will be when I have the day off its really easy with the Future Tide. Wave Chrono is sweet to time sets or get a idea how much time between sets. I think the Lodown is a nice watch and you get alot for your money.
i have a ripcurl "core tidewatch", its a stainless steel analog thing with tides/moon/range... I've had it for at least 10 years, and keeps right on ticking.
Kinda bummed. Had an older Ripcurl Tide that I had for years and never had a problem with it. It dissapeared sometime about two years ago when I stopped wearing a watch because of my job (snag hazzard, etc). Anyways, just wanted to get a new watch for surf sessions / trips, etc. The girl picked me up a brand new Tide on Friday evening. I wore it casually around Saturday and Sunday, and then finally got a chance to make it out into the water on Monday. Spent a few hours out in the water down in South Nags Head and when I got out of the water the inside of the face was fogging over... I was dissapointed... Then an hour later it just straight up stopped working. Dead as a hammer... Went from dissapointed to pissed. Hopefully this is a fluke. Gonna take it back to WRV in VB where she got it and see what they say about it.
