:cool:Ok, I would like to know all the local shapers in your area. i think it would be nice to know all the shapers/glassers around nc and south. now, i mean shapers that do their own glassing not shaper that have someone else do the glass work for them.

    Local Shapers

SURF CITY in NMB..... They are local shapers and designers.. They have their shop in the store and most of their boards are designed and shaped right there.. I got both of my boards tehre, and they're really easy going guys.. they're older guys, not intimidating for beginners or the sort.

My own personal opinion, but Kelly Richards in Garden City @ Village is hands down the best in the area. He shapes Perfection Boards. Pixie is talking about Gary Wilson who shapes for Surf City. Gary learned how to shape from Kelly at village. He makes a really good board but I still prefer Kelly. Like I said though, its all personal opinion, Kelly has been shaping my boards for years so he knows how I ride and what I like. Also, Todd Suttz is fairly new to the area and just now starting to get established. He shapes Island Inspired boards. He's from Hawaii and I've heard he shapes good stuff. He specializes in Longboards and Retro styles though. There is also Maya Surfboards, cant think of the dudes name but you can find most of his stuff in Extreme Surf Shop here in MB.

If ya got any questions feel free to Msg me.

I may be wrong on the last name, but he made my magic carpet: 6'0" Twin Devil fish.

Kelly Richards by far! Great guy, great to talk to and has been doing longer than anyone i know around here. However, I think he has someone else glass. I know he did when i had my first board done about 4 years ago. Guy named Christian at the time.

yea, he does have someone else glass but only because of the amount of boards he puts out. Alberto still glasses the boards for him.

Todd at Island Inspired. Its up 544 almost to coastal carolina's back entrance there. really small shop. I've been in there a few times and he's got the nicest shaping bay in the area. its freaking huge. he cranks out a lot of boards. every longboard ive seen in there is top quality with heavy glass jobs. Obviously the price depends on how big you wanna go, but i think a 9'0 with no airbrush would run you maybe 6 or 700. not too bad.

your best bet is just to go talk with him

    Local Shapers

I am a small backyard shaper in Myrtle Beach also, DM Surfboards. But I only do shape for myself, close friends, and do some customs here and there. You can check out my Myspace page if anyone is ever interested in getting a new board.

    myspace.com/dmsurfboards

In the Myrtle Beach area you have Perfections, Island Inspired, Maya, Spin Drift, and Kinetic. In my opion you can't go wrong with any of these guys, they have all been in the business a very long time and know what they are doing!!!!!

Everyone I know around here is impressed with Kelly Richards. A friend of mine shipped a Perfection retro fish out to his brother in CA and now his friends are asking him to buy more and send them out to Cali. I am a beginner and bought my board from Kelly. It's a used 9' 0" epoxy, but not Perfection. The point is Kelly treated me right and I will buy my next board from him. My buddy has been around him a lot (did surf camps for him) and swears by him. I have never heard a single bad thing about him. ILocally, if there are even 4 or 5 surfers in the water, you can bet at least one of them will have a Perfection board.

island inspired is by far the best. todd has shaped for some of the best shapers in the world. HIC, and al merrick to name a few. he also shapes mckevlins and boneyards shop boards. hes even done boards for pros like kelly and tom curren. if you want the best go to island inspired.

For the Bogue Banks/Crystal Coast area the players include the following in alphabetical order (I think this just about covers it) – “pm” us if you ever need their contact info…

Dave Dixon – epoxy zen master, knows all the foams and resins like no one else, we’ll be carrying a few of his boards here shortly.

Carl Heverly – (Carl Heverly Shapes) one of our very good friends and the last name says it all in terms of surfing and shaping. Can shape anything and he’s ready to drop off a few boards in the shop this weekend.

Jay Hill – (Dirty Bird Surfboards) epitome of a backyard shaper, diligent, and very good with the gl***. Jay just put a real nice funboard in the shop here.

Chris Jones – been shaping and gl***ing in this area for a long time and Atlantic Beach Surf Shop carries his boards, which says a lot.

Bobby Webb (Action Surfboards) – infamous around these parts and abroad; lots and lots of local riders

theres also robert byrd of sixty5ive surfboards. I know he does shape boards and they are nice looking but i dont know how much he would charge you but i'm pretty surf he does his own gl*** work. Also he does surfboard repairs just take it to sweetwater in WB and they'll take care of it. But he does it for a resonable price and fast turn around time the longest would take him 10 days from when you dropped it off.

You guys are missing one...... There is a ghost shaper that works out of DYNAMIC GLASS. Probably has shaped as many, or more boards than any of the ones mentioned. Good with epoxy......and DYNAMIC does a nice job on the glassing and artwork. All of our shapers are good, and have been around awhile. We may be in SC.....but there has been MANY a trophy won on local boards. Support those.who support you.
