What is your best all around board? This is the board if you could only take one board what would it be an why?
A CI Flyer or Flyer II, I have and it will surf anything from 2'-3 Bermuda High NJ windslop to 8'-10' perfect Blacks Beach when I use to live in SD.
They are slightly different boards to my understanding. I've hearn nothing but good things about both. Heard the flyer is good for smaller waves and the flyer II is better when it gets bigger. Not sure myself.
Despite what everyone else says, pop out blah blah blah, I really like my 9' epoxy magic model. It's not just small wave longboard but can handle bigger stuff. The only wave it really isn't good for is a knee to thigh mush, other than that it works very well and is fairly fast. I use it more as a performance longboard with the 2+1 set up if that makes a difference to anyone. I also got a good deal on it, bought it used (though it had no evidence of even being used, not a scratch) for $600 with fins and a brand new leash, no tax
You are correct, CI calls their Flyer II everything board, the board I was riding was the Flyer. They only had one left in the shop, a 6'6" which is the same as my regular other shortboards so it REALLY just about everything but preforms no different if I had walked out with a 6'4". I'm 6'2 180 and learned to surf circa the T. Curren T. Carroll era, so alittle extra length and foam is your friend. Most people think a 6'6" is a gun or semi-gun on here, go 2" shorter if you get one and your good.
I have a few pop outs as well. One of my favorite boards is a Webber Afterburner. A lot of people don't like stuff made out of the country but that board has a good design. Is it the G&S magic fish? I picked one of those up for my Girl friend. I havn't surfed it yet. Its 8 feet.
Nah it is a walden magic model. Yeah I see a lot of people using Webber boards which more than likely they are the ones busting on people for pop outs even though they are riding one. Pop outs aren't bad, but I don't think I would get a glassed one though. I have seen some pretty terrible pop out glass jobs.
I went with the eps epoxy. Much more durable. Just picked up an SD-II surfed with it this weekend. Pretty good too but needs a little bit better wave. The Webber goes in 2 footers.
5'10 Rusty Dwart. This is my favorite board of all time so much so I own 3! I've surfed everywhere with this board, North Shore Kauai where I lived for 4 years, Tamarindo breaks in Costa Rica, and in old cold inconsistant LI NY where I currently live, didn't matter if it was 2ft or 3 ft overhead, mushy, choppy or barrelly this board has never let me down!
