Hey guys, I started surfing about 4-5 years ago in Taiwan with a 9' foam. Before that I've been body boarding for around 10 years. After I came back to NJ I rented foam longboards for another year until I decided to buy my own. I went to a local surf shop where they recommended the 7'6" NSP Funboard. As newb of a board it was I loved it , been using it for 2 years. Now I'm thinking about going shorter for more performance and have been contemplating on a board. Skill wise I consider myself nothing more than intermediate. I'm 5'10" 177 pounds, athletic build. I'm thinking between the 6'0 7S Super Fish Epoxy and the 6'4" Aloha Stryka. Any help/advice/other board suggestions will greatly be appreciated Thank You.
Boards Going from that size to 6' is a big jump. I did a similar transition from 7'6" to a 6'8" Super Fish I picked up cheap. It was a good transition. I'm now trying smaller boards. You may want to go in the middle for a transition.
I agree with the above comment, I went from an 8'4" funboard to a 6'0" retro fish and it was much harder transition than I thought. Of course if you have the time to surf everyday and are persistent you should be able to pick it up fairly quickly, but if you are like me and can't get out there everyday then I would split the difference and go with something around 7 feet.
I went from a 7'4'' Frenchy's Longboard to basically boards shorter than 6'4'', and now I surf a 5'11'' JS Blakbox. I say it would depend on the size waves your surfing, but I think any board like the Dumpster Diver, Blakbox, or any board that can handle a variety of waves is perfect.
